Newton, Myles combine for 49 points, Stetson bounces NJIT

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) Derick Newton poured in 28points, two shy of his career high, and hauled in 11 rebounds as Stetson, which won just four conference games in the regular season, bounced second-seeded NJIT 82-67 in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Sun Tournament on Tuesday night.

Newton, the A-Sun's Freshman of the Year, shot 10-for-12 from the floor, including 3-for-3 on treys while the entire NJIT team shot just 2 of 26 from 3-point range.

Divine Myles pitched in 21 points for the Hatters (11-21), Luke Doyle added 11.

Damon Lynn led the Highlanders with 24 points and Ky Howard added 13.

NJIT (17-14), in its first season of A-Sun play, had won five in a row in the first half of February, but ends on three losses in its last four games.

Seventh-seeded Stetson meets Lipscomb (12-20) on Thursday in the semifinal round after the sixth-seeded Bisons upset No. 3 seed Jacksonville, 92-89 in OT.
