NC State signs Johnson as late addition to recruiting class
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) North Carolina State has made another late addition to its 2016-17 recruiting class.
Athletics spokesman Fred Demarest said Monday that the school has signed four-star guard Markell Johnson from Cleveland.
In a statement, coach Mark Gottfried says Johnson can play multiple positions.
N.C. State had a bumpy offseason after missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five years under Gottfried. Atlantic Coast Conference leading scorer Anthony ''Cat'' Barber left for the NBA, twin wings Caleb and Cody Martin transferred, and big man Abdul-Malik Abu flirted with the NBA to leave N.C. State with a potentially depleted roster.
But Abu returned, then N.C. State added five-star big man Omer Yurtseven from Turkey and three-star small forward Darius Hicks in May. Five-star point guard Dennis Smith Jr. enrolled in January.
