McCall with 20 points as Tennessee St. beats UC Davis 78-64

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) Tahjere McCall scored 20 points and Tennessee State beat UC Davis 78-64 in a season opener for both teams at the Cable Car Classic on Friday night.

McCall was 3 of 9 from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers, and was 12 of 16 from the line for the Tigers. Wayne Martin had 19 points and led the team with 15 rebounds.

A Delano Spencer 3-pointer put the Tigers on top 49-47 with 8:08 to play. McCall hit a 3 and Martin sank a layup to make it 61-57 with 3:39 left and another McCall 3-pointer with 21 seconds left sealed the win.

Jordan Reed sank a 3-pointer midway through the first period to give Tennessee State a 20-8 advantage and the Tigers held off a late surge by UC Davis to lead 29-26 at the break.

Siler Schneider led the Aggies with 22 points and four assists.
