IPFW keeps pace in Summit, beats Western Illinois 88-67
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) Max Landis had 19 points and six assists and IPFW defeated Western Illinois 88-67 on Sunday to keep pace atop the Summit League.
Joe Reed hit all six of his field-goal attempts and scored 17 points for the Mastodons (18-6, 7-2), who are in a four-way first-place tie. IPFW shot 56 percent, 45 percent on 3-pointers. Michael Calder scored 16 points as did DeAngelo Stewart, who made 4 of 6 3-point tries and scored all but two of his points in the second half.
Garret Covington scored 17 points and Jabari Sandifer added 11 with six assists for the Leathernecks (7-13, 0-9).
IPFW led 38-34 at halftime but then pulled away with Stewart's 3-pointer with 16:18 left giving the Mastodons a double-digit lead for good.
The Mastodons have matched the 18-6 start made by 2013-14 squad, who went on to finish 25-11, the program's best Division-I season.
