Incarnate Word holds off Abilene Christian 74-70

ABILENE, Texas (AP) Kyle Hittle sank five 3-pointers and scored 28 points to lead Incarnate Word to a 74-70 win over Abilene Christian on Thursday night.

Jontrell Walker added 22 points and Derail Green had 13 for Incarnate Word (16-12, 11-6 Southland), which hit just 39 percent from the field but sank 21 of 26 from the foul line to Abilene Christian's 8 of 15.

Leading 34-32 at the break, Incarnate Word opened the second half with an 18-3 run, sparked by Sam Burmeister's 3-pointer, and led the rest of the way. Hittle, Walker and Shawn Johnson also had 3-pointers during the run.

Abilene Christian (13-17, 8-9) chipped away through the second half and tightened it to 66-63 on Austin Cooke's 3-pointer with 1:57 left, but the Cardinals sealed it from the line down the stretch.

Jaren Lewis led Abilene Christian with 22 points and nine rebounds, while Jaylen Franklin added 17 points.
