Hartford beats Division III Emerson 83-50

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) John Carroll had 14 points, Mark Nwakamma added 13 points and seven rebounds and Hartford beat Division III Emerson 83-50 on Friday night.

After losing its season opener, Hartford (5-1) has won five straight and is off to the best start in the program's 31-year Division I history.

The Hawks shot well (54.2 percent) with Nwakamma leading the way on 6-of-8 shooting. Wes Cole was 3 of 7 from 3-point range with 11 points, and Yolonzo Moore II scored 10.

Emerson stayed close in the first half, trailing only 32-26 at the break.

Hartford opened the second with a 23-10 run and extended to 70-36 with 15 straight points.

Michael Thorpe was 4 of 7 from 3-point range to lead Emerson with 12 points. The Lions couldn't overcome 21 turnovers and 30.2 percent shooting from the field.
