Griffin rallies Texas Southern over Pine Bluff 54-52

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) Derrick Griffin had 18 points and 14 rebounds and scored six straight as Texas Southern rallied late to beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 54-52 on Monday night.

David Blanks scored the game-winning points for the Tigers (14-12, 13-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) on a jumper that capped the scoring with 20 seconds left.

Texas Southern trailed 50-42 with less than five minutes to go. Brian Carey made a pair of free throws and Malcolm Riley a layup before Griffin powered the Tigers into the lead at 52-50 with a minute to go.

Marcus Wallace tied it for the Golden Lions (6-23, 4-11) with 47 seconds left.

Chris Thomas had 12 points and Riley added 11. Texas Southern added a game to its lead over second-place Alcorn State (11-4) which lost to Alabama State earlier Monday night.

Devin Berry, JoVaughn Love and Wallace had 10 points each for Pine Bluff.
