Geno Auriemma says if you don't like UConn's dominance, 'Don't watch'
UConn coach Geno Auriemma has fired back at a Boston Globe columnist who said the Huskies "are killing the women's game" by being too dominant.
The tweet from the Globe's Dan Shaughnessy was referring to the 98-38 win over Mississippi State and ended with "Watch? No thanks."
And that's just what Auriemma thinks Shaughnessy and any other critics should do. He was asked about it on Sunday and responded bluntly:
"Don't watch. Nobody's putting a gun to your head to watch. So don't watch, and don't write about it. Spend your time on things you think are important. If you don't think this is important, don't pay any attention to it. The fact you have to comment on it? Says something about you, doesn't it?"
He also compared the Huskies' run to Tiger Woods former dominance on the PGA Tour.
"When Tiger was winning every major, nobody said he was bad for golf. Actually, he did a lot for golf. He made everybody have to be a better golfer. And they did. And now there's a lot more great golfers because of Tiger," said Auriemma.
The Woods comparison makes sense: The Huskies have nine titles since the turn of the century and 10 altogether under Auriemma's watch, which began in 1985.
With all that said, we'll let Auriemma get one last parting shot:
"There are a lot better writers than Dan Shaughnessy, but that doesn't mean he's bad for the game."
