Delaware State beats D-II Cheyney 86-70

DOVER, Del. (AP) Artem Tavakalyan had 19 points and nine rebounds on Monday night and Delaware State beat Division II Cheyney 86-70.
The Hornets (4-18, 2-5 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) scored nine straight to lead 75-56 with 7:30 left and held a comfortable margin the rest of the way.
Delaware State led only 44-42 at the break and needed an 11-4 run to get some separation early in the second half at 64-52. The Hornets then traded several baskets with the Wolves before pulling away for good.
Devin Morgan Jr. added 12 points and DeVaughn Mallory and Todd Hughes scored 11 each for the Hornets.
Juwan Mullen had a career-high 28 points for the Wolves. Cheyney rallied from a 13-point first-half deficit to a 40-all tie but never pulled in front.
Delaware State has won three of four after opening the season 1-17.
