Amin has career-best 30, Texas A&M-CC wins 5th straight

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) Ehab Amin had a career-best 30 points as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi held off Texas-Rio Grande Valley 84-68 in the concluding game of the South Texas Showdown Tuesday night.

Amin was 11 of 16 from the floor with four steals and six rebounds for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Joseph Kilgore made 7 of 12 field goal attempts for 16 points and Cole Martinez added 14.

The Islanders, 5-0 for the first time in A&M-CC history, held a 33-25 advantage at the break. The Vaqueros closed to 43-40 at the 14:51 mark but could get no closer.

The Islanders led 62-44 with 9:17 remaining and the Vaqueros mounted a late charge. Nick Dixon nailed a 3-pointer to close to 73-66 with 2:48 left. Amin answered with a 3-point play and Jake Kocher made three straight free throws to seal the win.

Nick Dixon led the Vaqueros (2-6) with 26 points and 10 rebounds.
