Impact Kuemper will make his third straight start. He's allowed eight goals on 69 shots over his first two appearances of the season. The Canadiens have scored 10 times over three contests, but their forward depth is being tested with Kirby Dach (knee) out for the year.

Matthew Phillips - Promoted to top line Phillips skated on the top line alongside Alex Ovechkin and Dylan Strome during Friday's practice, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Phillips had an impressive training camp and is among the only Capitals players to be producing offensively (one goal, one assist) in the first three games. Head coach Spencer Carbery appears to be putting his lines in a blender following a rough start with Phillips as the beneficiary. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues and daily formats may want to roll the dice on the 25-year-old Phillips when setting their lineups ahead of Saturday's action.

Impact Haman-Aktell has a goal in two games with AHL Hershey this season. The 25-year-old defenseman hasn't made his NHL debut yet. He recorded nine goals and 36 games with Vaxjo of the Swedish League in 2022-23.

Tom Wilson - Pockets helper Wilson posted an assist, two shots on goal, two hits and 11 PIM in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Senators.
Impact Wilson fought Mark Kastelic in the second period and got involved in another dust-up in the third. Through three contests, Wilson's been a regular visitor to the sin bin with 18 PIM. He's added five shots on net and 10 hits, while his assist Wednesday was his first point of the campaign. The winger should continue to see top-six minutes and some power-play time.

Alex Ovechkin - Snags helper in loss Ovechkin recorded an assist and three hits in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Senators.
Impact For the second game in a row, Ovechkin failed to put a shot on goal. He was at least able to get on the scoresheet with a helper on John Carlson's tally. It's too soon to fret about Ovechkin's quiet start to the season, but the Capitals' offense is abysmal without the captain firing on all cylinders. He's supplied seven hits, four shots on goal and a minus-2 rating through three outings.

Impact Carlson has a goal and an assist over the first three games of the season, which isn't bad since the Capitals have scored just three goals. He is one of two players on the team with multiple points, joining rookie Matthew Phillips. Carlson has added nine blocked shots, eight shots on net, three hits and a minus-1 rating while playing in his usual top-pairing role.

Darcy Kuemper - Torched for six goals Kuemper allowed six goals on 29 shots in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Senators.
Impact Kuemper gave up four goals within the first 25 minutes of the contest, and the Capitals never put up much of a comeback effort. He's now 1-1-0 with eight goals allowed on 69 shots through his two starts. It speaks volumes that the Capitals left their top goalie in net for this blowout -- with Charlie Lindgren (undisclosed) out, it appears Clay Stevenson is an emergency option only. Kuemper will likely start again Saturday in Montreal.
