Impact Thompson opened the scoring at 8:18 of the second period, but that was all the Sabres could manage against Jake Allen. Buffalo scored just twice over the two-game NHL Global Series in Prague, which is at least mildly concerning after the team fell short of expectations in 2023-24. Thompson was at the forefront of that decline, producing just 56 points in 71 contests a year after his breakout 94-point season. He has a goal, six shots and a minus-1 rating across two contests to begin 2024-25.

It's not the best game of his career -- he had a five-goal effort Dec. 7, 2022 versus the Blue Jackets -- but it was easily Thompson's best game this season.
