Expected to start Thursday Grubauer is expected to start Thursday's road game against Ottawa, Geoff Baker of the Kraken's official site reports.

Impact Joey Daccord started Seattle's first three games of the season, but it appears as though he'll get the night off Thursday after the Kraken's last two matchups went to overtime. Grubauer made 26 regular-season appearances for Seattle last year, going 8-17-1 with a 3.49 GAA and .875 save percentage.

Set to defend home crease Grubauer will draw the home start during Monday's preseason game against the Flames, Mike Benton of the Kraken Audio Network reports.

Impact Grubauer is in the midst of a competition to serve as the Kraken's No. 2 netminder to begin the regular season. He started on the road against the Flames last Tuesday and turned aside 17 of 19 shots while playing approximately half of the game. While he's been relatively solid, Matt Murray has also played well during the preseason, so Grubauer could need another productive showing during Monday's matchup in order to keep pace.

In net against Calgary Grubauer was the first goaltender off the ice at Tuesday's morning skate, according to Mike Benton of the Kraken Audio Network, indicating that he will start in Calgary.

Impact Grubauer will start the season as Seattle's No. 2 netminder, but he has competition for that role in the form of Matt Murray, who signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the club July 1. Grubauer underwhelmed in 2024-25, but general manager Jason Botterill said in June that the team believes Grubauer can have a bounce-back season.

No buyout on horizon The Kraken will not buy out Grubauer's contract after a poor statistical season, reports the Seattle Times.

Impact General manager Jason Botterill confirmed late Friday that the team is going to work with Grubauer and try to improve the team in front of him, too. "We believe that Philipp can bounce back from that situation." Grubauer will be available late in drafts for 2025-26, and could be an astute stash if he can truly turn things around.

Impact Grubauer let a couple of one-goal leads slip away, but he never let the Blues pull out too far ahead. In the shootout, he played a starring role, stopping five of seven attempts to help the Kraken get the win. Grubauer is up to 8-17-1 with a 3.49 GAA and an .875 save percentage over 26 outings. He's redeemed himself a bit since a stint at AHL Coachella Valley, going 3-2-0 with 11 goals allowed on 129 shots (.915 save percentage) over his last five outings. Still, don't be surprised to see Joey Daccord get the nod for the Kraken's season finale at home versus the Kings on Tuesday.

The Stars are tied for fourth in the NHL with 3.41 goals per game and defeated the Kraken 5-1 in the first half of this back-to-back set in Seattle on Saturday.

The Wild have been lacking on offense lately -- they haven't exceeded three goals in any of their last six games, with their last instance above that mark being a March 4 win over the Kraken.

The 33-year-old could help alleviate Joey Daccord's workload down the stretch -- Daccord's performance has started to crater under heavy usage, and Grubauer may just be the hot hand currently. For the season, Grubauer is 7-15-1 with a 3.61 GAA and an .872 save percentage over 23 appearances. Even if he's able to claim a larger role, fantasy managers may want to proceed with caution.
