NY Rangers Send Down Cole Beaudoin, Call Up Justin Dowling in 4th Line Shakeup

Cole Beaudoin - Dropped to minors
Beaudoin was reassigned to AHL Hartford on Wednesday.
Impact
Beaudoin will trade places with Justin Dowling, who was called up in a corresponding move. While the 20-year-old has moved up and down between levels recently, he's only appeared in four games for the club and logged just 3:29 of ice time versus the Lightning on Tuesday. This move will allow Beaudoin to see significantly more minutes in the minors, which should further his development more than sitting on the bench with the Rangers.

Justin Dowling - Up from minors
Dowling was summoned from AHL Hartford on Wednesday.
Impact
Dowling had a goal and an assist in four regular-season appearances with AHL Hartford in 2026-27. The 36-year-old also has nine goals and 26 points in 154 career regular-season NHL games.

Rangers play the Devils following Lafreniere's 2-goal game
The New York Rangers visit the New Jersey Devils after Alexis Lafreniere scored two goals in the Rangers' 4-1 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning

Marcus Pettersson - Logs first point with new team
Pettersson posted an assist, two blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Lightning.
Impact
Pettersson's helper Tuesday was his first point as a Ranger. He's filling the role he was acquired for -- a steady second-pairing shutdown defenseman. Through eight games, he's posted six shots on net, 11 hits, 14 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating while averaging 20:35 of ice time. Pettersson has displayed 30-point potential in the past, but offense is secondary to keeping opponents in check for the 30-year-old blueliner.

Tye Kartye - Registers pair of helpers
Kartye notched two assists, two hits, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Lightning.
Impact
That's the second multi-point effort in a row for Kartye. The physical forward is taking full advantage of his second-line gig -- he saw a season-high 16:21 of ice time in this contest. He has two goals, four assists, nine shots on net, 19 hits, four PIM and a plus-4 rating over eight appearances. Kartye's offense is likely to fade at some point, especially since he's not a factor on the power play, but his value in banger leagues has never been higher than it is right now.

Adam Fox - Eight points in eight games so far
Fox delivered two apples in a 4-1 win over Tampa Bay on Tuesday. He blocked four shots.
Impact
Fox is off to a strong and steady start to 2026-27. He has eight assists, 15 blocks and six shots in eight games this season. Fox's average ice time (21:34) is down two minutes from last season (23:38), and that kind of drop (and rest) could be enough to keep him on the ice for a full season. He played just 55 games last season and the Rangers suffered without him patrolling the blue line.

Dylan Garand - So good fans chanted his name
Garand made 25 saves in a 4-1 victory over the Lightning on Tuesday.
Impact
Garand's performance is the best-case scenario for the Rangers, who lost Igor Shesterkin for the season because of a lower-body injury. The home crowd was chanting his first name by the end of the game. Garand has started two straight games and won both. Overall he's 3-1-0 with just four goals allowed in four starts. His 1.15 GAA and .951 will revert to the mean over time, but right now he's an outstanding story and a solid fantasy addition.

Will Cuylle - Adding production to physicality
Cuylie scored a goal and added 11 hits Tuesday in a 4-1 win over Tampa Bay.
Impact
The goal was a sweet deflection that froze Andrei Vasilevskiy. The hits? Classic Cuylie. He has six points (three goals, three assists) in his last six games. He has 16 shots in that span and 37 in eight games overall. Cuylie brings a rare combination of physicality and production, and this season's offense could be the step forward toward a 55-point, 300-plus hit breakout. There's a lot of room on most rosters for his kind of game.

Mika Zibanejad - Moving up franchise record list
Zibanejad scored an empty-net goal in Tuesday's 4-2 win over Tampa Bay.
Impact
It was Zibanejad's 14th career shorthanded goal, tying him with Don Maloney for third-most in franchise history and behind Mark Messier (23) and Adam Graves (16). He's on a modest two-game streak (one goal, two assists, six shots), and he has eight points, including six helpers, and 17 shots in eight contests. Zibanejad has been instrumental in helping his team to five regulation home wins in a row to start a season. That's notable because they had just nine regulation wins at home all of last season. Their fifth didn't come until Dec. 20, 2025. Zibanejad is four seasons removed from his 91-point (39 goals) campaign in 2022-23, but he's still a high 70s player who shoots the lights out 5v5 and tallies copious points on special teams.

Alexis Lafreniere - Goal streak at four games, seven snipes
Lafreniere scored twice in a 4-1 victory over the Lightning on Tuesday night.
Impact
The snipes extended his goal streak to a career-best four games (seven goals) and his point streak to six games (10 points). Lafreniere's goals both came in the first, and his second stood as the winner. Surprisingly, his seven goals have him temporarily tied for second in the NHL. Lafreniere has two seasons of 57 points in his last three, and at 25, his draft pedigree has slipped a few notches. But he's talented and this could be a real step forward. Beware the bloated shooting percentage (38.9) -- his career average is 14.2, so the plummet is coming.

Dylan Garand - Gets starting nod at home
Garand will be between the home pipes for Tuesday's tilt versus Tampa Bay, per Jim Cerny of NHL.com.
Impact
Garand has looked solid to start the season, posting a 2-1-0 record, 1.20 GAA and one shutout. With Igor Shesterkin (knee) out for the season and Joonas Korpisalo (lower body) still a month from returning, the Rangers will have to turn the crease over to Garand for the time being. If he continues to perform well, Garand could secure his spot as the No. 1 option the rest of the way.

Noah Laba - Chips in with helper
Laba notched an assist and two hits in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Canucks.
Impact
Laba has two helpers, five shots on net, 13 hits, four blocked shots and a plus-1 rating over seven contests this season. The 23-year-old center is in his second NHL campaign, and he's emerged as a decent third-line defensive center. Laba had 24 points over 74 outings as a rookie last year, but don't expect a significant bump in offense for him in 2026-27.

Mika Zibanejad - Adds pair of assists in win
Zibanejad notched two assists, including one on the power play, and added three shots on net, two blocked shots and two PIM in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Canucks.
Impact
Zibanejad is up to three multi-point efforts over seven games this season. While his finishing touch has been a little lacking, he's still playing a key role on the Rangers' top line and first power-play unit. The veteran center has a goal, six assists, 14 shots on net, 13 hits, seven blocked shots and a plus-3 rating.

J.T. Miller - Generates pair of assists
Miller recorded two assists and a plus-2 rating in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Canucks.
Impact
Miller earned his first multi-point effort of the campaign. The 33-year-old is centering the second line and playing on the first power-play unit early in the year. Miller has racked up a goal and four assists during a four-game point streak. Over seven contests in total, he's added 10 shots on net, 12 hits, 11 PIM and a plus-3 rating. Miller should continue to offer well-rounded production as he tries to get back over the 60-point mark he missed in 2025-26.
