Luke Hughes - Contributes two power-play assists Hughes logged a pair of power-play assists and three shots on goal in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Ducks.
Impact Hughes earned his first multi-point effort since Dec. 29. The 20-year-old defenseman has been a fine fantasy option so far with 31 points (16 on the power play), 91 shots on net, 35 blocked shots and a minus-19 rating through 60 appearances on the year. Hughes continues to see top-four minutes and ample power-play time, so he should be at least somewhat consistent on offense.

Impact Meier tied the game at 1-1 in the first period, but the Ducks regained the lead less than a minute later. The 27-year-old winger has shown more offense lately, racking up three goals and five assists over his last 10 outings, which corresponds with his recent rise from the third line to a top-six spot. Meier has 12 tallies, 27 points, 131 shots on net, 67 hits and a minus-24 rating through 47 contests overall.

Impact Toffoli has 10 points over his last 10 games, with half of them coming on the power play. The 31-year-old helped out on a Timo Meier tally in the first period before scoring one of his own in the third, though the Devils' comeback push fell just short. Toffoli has been as advertised for the Devils with 26 goals, 18 assists, 14 power-play points, 176 shots on net, 59 hits and a minus-11 rating over 59 appearances. He likely won't match the 73-point campaign he had in 2022-23, but he has a good chance to exceed 50 points for the third time in his career.

Impact Hughes picked up his second straight multi-point effort, but it wasn't quite enough. The 22-year-old has 20 shots on net over his last two games as he takes advantage of inferior competition on the Devils' road trip in California. The center is up to 20 goals, 57 points (25 on the power play), 215 shots on net and a minus-7 rating through 44 appearances this season. Hughes is a lock to remain in the top six and on the first power-play unit.

Akira Schmid - Solid in relief appearance Schmid stopped all nine shots he faced in relief of Nico Daws in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Ducks.
Impact Schmid played the third period and gave the Devils a chance to get back in the contest. Tyler Toffoli's power-play goal cut the deficit to one, but they were unable to pull even. Schmid has made two appearances during his current NHL stint, allowing three goals on 35 shots. With Daws' recent inconsistency, Schmid could have a chance to start in the near future. Schmid is 5-8-1 with a 3.17 GAA and an .895 save percentage through 17 appearances this season.

Impact The Devils tilted the ice quite a bit, but Daws' leakiness on the Ducks' limited opportunities made the difference. Daws has had some good performances this season, but he's allowed three or more goals in five of his last six outings. He's now at 8-9-0 with a 3.33 GAA and an .892 save percentage over 17 appearances. Akira Schmid stopped all nine shots he faced in the third period in his relief outing, which sets up head coach Lindy Ruff for a challenging decision about his starting goalie Sunday versus the Kings.
