Beck Malenstyn - Two helpers in Montreal Malenstyn picked up two assists while adding five hits and a plus-2 rating in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Canadiens.

Impact The points were the first of the season in seven games for Malenstyn, but he's made his presence felt on the fourth line with 30 hits. The 28-year-old isn't much of a scoring threat -- he scored a career-high seven goals over 81 regular-season games in 2025-26 -- but he's an effective grinder in a limited role.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen - Falls to Habs in shootout Luukkonen stopped 35 shots in regulation and overtime but zero of three shootout attempts in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to Montreal.

Impact The netminder did well just to earn a point in the standings for the Sabres, as the visitors were out-shot 38-17 in regulation and overtime, including a 5-0 advantage for the Canadiens in OT. Luukkonen's luck ran out in the shootout however, as Cole Caufield, Alexandre Texier and Zachary Bolduc all found the back of the net. Luukkonen is 2-2-1 through five appearances to begin the season with a 3.45 GAA and .850 save percentage, but he won't face much of a challenge for the top spot in the crease while Alex Lyon (upper body) remains on the shelf.

Olen Zellweger - Lights lamp twice in shootout loss Zellweger scored two goals on four shots on net and added two PIM, one hit, one blocked shot and a plus-1 rating in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Canadiens.

Impact The 23-year-old blueliner opened and closed the scoring in regulation, earning the Sabres a point in the standings with a seeing-eye shot through traffic early in the third period that tied the game at 3-3. Zellweger played a season-high 25:49, including 2:14 with the man advantage as part of the second power-play unit, due to injuries to Rasmus Dahlin (upper body), Matt Grzelcyk (lower body) and others, and the former Duck figures to continue getting an elevated workload and role until the Buffalo blue line gets healthier.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen - Tending twine Tuesday Luukkonen will protect the road goal versus the Canadiens on Tuesday, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.

Impact Luukkonen has struggled in his starts this season, but he earned a win in relief on Monday after a bad game from Colten Ellis. Luukkonen has allowed 13 goals on 69 shots, and considering the Sabres are on the second half of a back-to-back, including travel, he'll be a risky fantasy play against Montreal.

Matt Grzelcyk - Dealing with lower-body injury Grzelcyk (lower body) suffered a "flare-up" and could be out for at least "a few days," head coach Lindy Ruff told Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News on Tuesday.

Impact Buffalo placed Grzelcyk on injured reserve Tuesday. He hasn't played since Opening Night against Columbus on Oct. 1. With Rasmus Dahlin (upper body) and Grzelcyk unavailable, the Sabres recalled Dennis Gilbert from AHL Rochester to play against Montreal on Tuesday.
