How the Seahawks plan to regain the gritty identity of their Super Bowl teams

After Mike Macdonald's first season at the helm, the Seahawks are looking to the past to get their offensive mojo back. Here's how.

How the Seahawks plan to regain the gritty identity of their Super Bowl teams
Gains 91 yards Sunday Charbonnet rushed 14 times for 59 yards while collecting a lateral for 32 receiving yards in Sunday's 30-25 win over the Rams.
Impact Charbonnet started the Seahawks' final game of the regular season with Kenneth Walker (ankle) mending on injured reserve. The 23-year-old Charbonnet had a peculiar stat line when he supplanted his modest 59 rushing yards with 32 receiving yards on a lateral from Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Charbonnet technically did not record a target or reception in Sunday's season finale, but his combined efforts brought the well-rounded backup up to 909 combined yards from scrimmage and nine touchdowns across 17 games this year. Expect Charbonnet to continue establishing himself as a candidate to be Seattle's every-down back as the aforementioned Walker enters the final year of his four-year contract.

Finishes with 76 total yards in win Charbonnet rushed 15 times for 57 yards and secured all three targets for 19 yards in the Seahawks' 6-3 win over the Bears on Thursday night.
Impact Charbonnet once again stepped in for Kenneth Walker (IR-ankle) and put together a serviceable, albeit unspectacular, performance. The second-year back appeared headed for a much bigger night when he netted 24 yards on his first four carries during the opening drive, but he often found tough sledding on the ground for the remainder of the night. Nevertheless, Charbonnet has already proven capable of shouldering the bulk of the Seahawks' ground attack on multiple occasions, and he should have a pivotal role in a Week 18 road battle against the Rams on Sunday, Jan. 5 that could potentially be for the NFC West title.

Taking over as lead back Charbonnet is slated to serve as Seattle's lead back for the final two games of the regular season after Kenneth Walker was placed on injured reserve Thursday, John Boyle of the Se...
Impact Walker had already been ruled out in advance of Thursday's game in Chicago, but his move to IR sets up Charbonnet for two starts to close out the season, and potentially at least two more in the playoffs if the Seahawks are able to punch their ticket to the postseason by beating out the Rams for the NFC West title. Charbonnet projects as a strong option in fantasy lineups in Week 17, given the heavy volume the Seahawks have given him in the other four games Walker had missed this season. In those four contests, Charbonnet has scored six touchdowns and has averaged 19.5 touches for 108.8 scrimmage yards.

In line for another start Thursday Charbonnet (elbow) doesn't carry a designation and is expected to start Thursday at Chicago with Kenneth Walker (ankle) ruled out for that contest, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athle...
Impact Walker thus will be inactive for a third time in four games, affording Charbonnet his third nod during that stretch. When Walker was sidelined Weeks 14 and 15 due to a calf injury, Charbonnet paced the Seahawks backfield to the tune of 38 touches for 259 yards from scrimmage and three rushing TDs. Reserve RB Kenny McIntosh also got in the act during those two games, tallying 54 total yards on 12 touches.

Considered full participant Tuesday Charbonnet (elbow) was estimated to be a full participant at the Seahawks' walkthrough Tuesday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Impact Charbonnet was considered as a limited participant Monday at the team's first walkthrough of the week, so his perceived increase in participation Tuesday is a positive sign. Fellow running back Kenneth Walker (ankle) was a non-participant for the second straight day. With Seattle geared up to face the Bears on Thursday Night Football, it's possible that Charbonnet could step into the starting role in Seattle's backfield. In three starts this season, Charbonnet has turned 54 carries into 263 yards and five touchdowns. The Seahawks' final injury report of the week will come out following Wednesday's practice and it'll shed a better light on the team's backfield situation heading into Week 17.

Estimated as limited Monday Charbonnet was estimated as a limited practice participant Monday due to an elbow issue, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Charbonnet logged just 13 offensive snaps -- his fewest of the season -- Sunday against Minnesota, but he may have picked up an elbow injury during his time in the game. The fact that he was estimated as a limited participant Monday could indicate that the issue isn't serious, though more clarity should come as the week progresses. Charbonnet's status is particularly pertinent given that lead back Kenneth Walker suffered an ankle injury Sunday and was slated for an MRI on Monday while being an estimated DNP. If Walker is held out Thursday versus the Bears and Charbonnet is healthy enough to suit up, the latter would presumably take on most of the carries for the Seahawks.

Silver lining to Sunday's dud Charbonnet lost one yard on his only carry while corralling both of his targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 27-24 loss to Minnesota.
Impact Charbonnet was expected to remain a "big part" of Seattle's game plan despite the return of starting tailback Kenneth Walker (ankle). While the lie detector test proved the team's report to be false, there is a silver lining hidden in the backup's lack of usage Sunday. Walker suffered an ankle injury late in the narrow loss, which could afford Charbonnet the opportunity to start in Week 17 and beyond. We will have to wait for the MRI results on the starter's ankle early in the practice week, but fantasy managers who felt scorned by Charbonnet in Week 16 should absolutely hang on to the talented backup ahead of Thursday's tilt against Chicago.
DECEMBER 23, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Remains part of Week 16 game plan Charbonnet is expected to remain "a big part" of the Seahawks' game plan for Sunday's game against the Vikings, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Impact Even though the Seahawks are welcoming lead back Kenneth Walker (calf) back from a two-game absence, Charbonnet is unlikely to be completely phased out after he averaged 6.8 yards per carry and 8.9 yards per reception on 38 total touches over the past two weeks. Garafolo notes that Charbonnet is serving as a team captain Sunday, and because of that, the Seahawks are expected to announce him as a starter. Even so, Charbonnet is still likely to see his playing time and touch count take a significant hit with the return of Walker, who turned in a pair of full practices to close out the week and clear up any concerns about his health.

Cleared for Sunday Charbonnet (oblique) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against Minnesota, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact Neither does Kenneth Walker, whose absence the past two weeks with a calf injury turned Charbonnet into a high-end fantasy starters. It's possible Charbonnet's strong performances will get him a few extra touches relative to his workload before Walker's injury, but the Seahawks have made it clear all season that they prefer Walker as the lead runner.
DECEMBER 20, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Gets back to limited Thursday Charbonnet (oblique) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Impact Charbonnet wasn't able to log any drills Wednesday, so his return to some activity one day later is a step in the right direction. Meanwhile, fellow RB Kenneth Walker (calf) practiced Thursday for the first time in more than two weeks, and he was a full participant at that. As a result, Walker appears set to regain the No. 1 role out of the Seahawks backfield Sunday versus the Vikings, which would relegate Charbonnet to backup duties, assuming he's active.
DECEMBER 20, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Tending to oblique issue Charbonnet didn't practice Wednesday due to an oblique injury, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Impact Charbonnet joined fellow RB Kenneth Walker (calf) as a DNP to begin Week 16 prep, placing a cloud over the Seahawks backfield ahead of Sunday's game against the Vikings. Kenny McIntosh is the only healthy player at the position on Seattle's active roster, and how Charbonnet and Walker fare on the field, if at all, Thursday and Friday likely will determine who may be the team's primary rusher this weekend.

LISTEN: Zach Charbonnet Breaks Through The Defense For 24-Yard Touchdown Run Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet runs it into the end zone from 24 yards out to give the Seahawks their first touchdown of the night.
DECEMBER 16, 2024 • SEAHAWKS.COM
Scores team's only TD on SNF Charbonnet had eight carries for 54 yards and a touchdown while adding one reception (on four targets) for 12 yards in Sunday's 30-13 loss to Green Bay.
Impact The entirety of Seattle's offense was stymied by Green Bay's defense aside from Charbonnet's 24-yard touchdown scamper early in the fourth quarter. The surging sophomore has thrived in his last two starts sans Kenneth Walker (calf), unearthing 259 yards from scrimmage with three touchdowns as the Seahawks' primary back. Walker could potentially return in Week 16, which would put a significant dent in Charbonnet's value at a crucial point of the fantasy campaign. Until the former is officially ruled active, managers should hang on to the talented backup in the event he draws another start against the Vikings next Sunday.
