Set for No. 3 receiver duties again Johnson is set to serve as the Buccaneers' No. 3 receiver Sunday against the Saints with Antonio Brown (ankle) once again inactive.
Impact While spelling Brown in Week 7 against the Bears, Johnson logged a season-high 47 snaps but was targeted just twice, parlaying both looks into catches totaling 16 yards. The second-year wideout will have a second straight opportunity to run directly behind starters Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, and given how frequently vexing the matchup against Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore has often been for Evans in particular, Johnson could be set to draw more of Tom Brady's attention than he did versus Chicago.
OCTOBER 31, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Makes use of two opportunities Johnson brought in both targets for 16 yards in the Buccaneers' 38-3 win over the Bears on Sunday.
Impact The second-year wideout logged a hefty 49 snaps overall, good for a 67 percent share. However, Johnson saw the bulk of Tom Brady's attention diverted to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, who accounted for 14 of the quarterback's 20 completions, 187 of his 211 yards and all four of his touchdown passes. With Antonio Brown (ankle) potentially back for a Week 8 road battle against the Saints, Johnson figures to see his time on the field dwindle from Sunday's level before long.
OCTOBER 26, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Should help replace Antonio Brown Johnson is expected to serve as the Buccaneers' No. 3 receiver in Sunday's game against the Bears, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
Impact Johnson went without a target while logging his second-lowest snap share (16 percent) in the team's Week 6 win over Philadelphia, but a larger role should be on the horizon after Antonio Brown (knee) was ruled out for Sunday's contest. Beyond starters Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, the only other healthy receiver on the roster is Jaelon Darden, who appears more likely to contribute as a return man rather than on offense. That leaves Johnson as the most obvious candidate to join Evans and Godwin in three-receiver sets, and while the latter two players will likely command most of Tom Brady's attention, Johnson could still carve out a role as a secondary target. Along with Brown, the Bucs will be without top tight end Rob Gronkowski (ribs) for a fourth straight game, while No. 2 TE O.J. Howard (ankle) is banged up after drawing a season-high seven targets last week against the Eagles.
OCTOBER 22, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
No targets in Week 6 win Johnson did not log a target over 12 snaps in the Buccaneers' 28-22 win over the Eagles on Thursday night.
Impact The reserve second-year wideout couldn't crack the stat sheet after posting a solid 3-42 line in Week 6 against the Dolphins. Given the healthy talent at receiver in front of him, Johnson's production will likely remain volatile on a week-to-week basis unless multiple injuries strike the position.
OCTOBER 18, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Bounces back with three grabs Johnson brought in all three of his targets for 42 yards in the Buccaneers' 45-17 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.
Impact The second-year wideout got blanked in Week 4 after an encouraging 3-63 line in Week 3 against the Rams while Antonio Brown was on the reserve-COVID-19 list, so it was encouraging to see him reemerge to an extent Sunday. Johnson has seven receptions for 110 yards through five games this season after logging 12 receptions across 14 contests as a rookie, and he should continue seeing sporadic complementary opportunities as the No. 4 wideout while Scotty Miller (toe) remains sidelined.
OCTOBER 12, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Catchless in Week 4 win Johnson failed to come up with either of his two targets in the Buccaneers' 19-17 win over the Patriots on Sunday night. He also returned one kickoff for 10 yards.
Impact A week after producing an encouraging 3-63 line against the Rams in a Week 3 loss, Johnson came up empty even with Scotty Miller (toe) on injured reserve. Antonio Brown's return from a one-game absence due to a stint on the reserve/COVID-19 list and bad weather helped play a part in Johnson's downturn. His role seems unlikely to increase versus the Dolphins in Week 5.

Solid showing in loss Johnson secured three of six targets for 63 yards in the Buccaneers' 34-24 loss to the Rams on Sunday.
Impact The second-year wideout was afforded an expanded opportunity with Antonio Brown (reserve/COVID-19) sidelined, and he came through in impressive fashion with a career-best receiving yardage total. Johnson's tally in that category also was good for third on the Buccaneers behind only Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, making it an all-around encouraging performance in a disappointing afternoon from a team perspective. Johnson even outpaced the more experienced Scotty Miller in snaps by a narrow 34-32 margin, another tangible indicator he eventually could surpass the latter on the depth chart and slot in behind the top trio of Evans, Godwin and Brown.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Records first catch of season Johnson secured one of two targets for five yards across 17 snaps from scrimmage during the Buccaneers' 48-25 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
Impact Through two games, Johnson has logged three targets overall, and he could be set for a nice bump in opportunity in a Week 3 showdown against the Rams. With Antonio Brown being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, there's a strong chance the veteran wideout misses at least the game versus Los Angeles, a development that would elevate Johnson to No. 4 receiver status, at minimum. It's also likely Johnson could essentially share No. 3 duties with Scotty Miller in such a scenario, considering he outpaced the latter, who's yet to see a target over the first pair of contests, by five snaps Sunday.
SEPTEMBER 23, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
No catches in opener Johnson failed to come up with his only target during the Buccaneers' 31-29 win over the Cowboys on Thursday.
Impact The second-year wideout logged just three snaps from scrimmage, so the lack of action on offense was unsurprising. Johnson's empty stat line could unfortunately be par from the course for him on many weeks while the top wideout trio of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown is healthy.
SEPTEMBER 15, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Another solid showing Saturday Johnson secured both of his targets for 16 yards in the Buccaneers' 23-16 preseason win over the Texans on Saturday night.
Impact The second-year wideout posted his second straight two-reception tally of the preseason and finished with five catches overall across three exhibition games. Johnson appears to be on solid footing to start making inroads into some No. 4 receiver snaps as the coming season unfolds, reps he'd presumably be sharing with Scotty Miller, and perhaps to a lesser extent, rookie Jaelon Darden. Johnson's first chance to start carving out a bigger role comes in the Week 1 battle against the Cowboys on Thursday, Sept. 9.

Pair of grabs in preseason loss Johnson secured two of three targets for 21 yards in the Buccaneers' 34-3 preseason loss to the Titans on Saturday night.
Impact The second-year wideout is fighting to carve out a bigger role in 2021 after seeing action in 14 games last season, and he's currently in position to potentially eat into some of Scotty Miller's No. 4 receiver snaps as the season unfolds. Johnson also brought in one of two targets for 11 yards in the exhibition opener against the Bengals and has done more with his three catches than Miller has with his trio of grabs over the first two preseason games. Johnson may have an extended opportunity to showcase his skills in Saturday's preseason finale against the Texans.
AUGUST 23, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Back at practice Tuesday Johnson returned to practice Tuesday after a false positive COVID-19 test result, Carmen Vitali of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Impact The second-year wideout and safety Antoine Winfield both produced what now appear to have been false positives on Sunday, leading to both missing Monday's session. Johnson was active Tuesday, however, with Vitali noting that he got "quite a bit of work" in and made a particularly impressive catch on a Tom Brady pass in one of the day's 11-on-11 periods. Having produced a 12-169-12 line over 265 offensive snaps as a rookie, Johnson could have a slightly clearer path to more playing time this season with fellow wideout Justin Watson (knee) out until at least late November.

Super Bowl champions address wants, not needs in NFL draft

Theoretically, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could have opted out of the NFL draft and still felt good about their chances of repeating as Super Bowl champions
MAY 2, 2021 • Associated Press
Quiet in Super Bowl LV win Johnson failed to bring in his only target during the Buccaneers' 31-9 win over the Chiefs during Super Bowl LV on Sunday.
Impact Unlike the divisional-round and NFC Championship Game wins over the Saints and Packers, Johnson was unable to make an appearance on the stat sheet Sunday. However, the rookie did record one reception for double-digit yardage in four of the five games leading into Super Bowl LV, and he finished the regular campaign with 12 catches for 169 yards and two touchdowns. The 22-year-old was unsurprisingly buried on the depth chart for most of his first pro season, particularly after Antonio Brown was signed midseason. However, with both Brown and Chris Godwin ticketed for unrestricted free agency, there's a chance Johnson sees a bump in opportunity in 2021.

AB says he's grateful for 2nd chance provided by Buccaneers

Antonio Brown says he’s grateful to be back in the NFL, let alone preparing to play in the Super Bowl
FEBRUARY 3, 2021 • Associated Press
Key role in NFC title game Johnson secured one of two targets for 16 yards in the Buccaneers' 31-26 win over the Packers in Sunday's NFC Championship Game.
Impact The rookie made another one of his trademark contested catches on a Tom Brady bullet in the second half, but it was the one ball he didn't bring in that was arguably even more prominent. Facing a third-and-4 with 1:46 remaining and trying to preserve a five-point lead, Brady surprisingly targeted Johnson on a right-to-left crossing route. Johnson got some separation from the trailing Kevin King, which caused the latter to grab hold of the wideout's undershirt and draw a critical pass interference penalty. Johnson had only 12 receptions during the regular season, but Brady has displayed trust in him by looking for him in the red zone and on tough throws during the postseason. However, if Antonio Brown (knee) is back for the Super Bowl LV matchup against the Chiefs as expected, Johnson likely will share No. 4 receiver duties with Scotty Miller during that contest.

Impact The rookie logged 15 snaps in Sunday's divisional-round win over the Saints with Brown spending the majority of the second half on the sideline, with his one reception an impressive 15-yard grab on third down. Johnson was able to get a fair amount of experience during the regular season despite recording just 12 catches, logging 265 snaps from scrimmage over 14 games. Tom Brady showed some trust in Johnson in the red zone as well, with four of the 2020 fifth-round pick's 17 targets coming in that part of the field. Coach Bruce Arians endorsed Johnson's ability to rise to the occasion Friday, noting Johnson has earned the trust of his staff and Brady with his play.
JANUARY 23, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Makes acrobatic catch in win Johnson secured his only target for a 15-yard reception in the Buccaneers' 30-20 divisional-round win over the Saints on Sunday.
Impact The rookie's one grab stood out, as Johnson exhibited excellent control, getting in near-parallel position to the ground while making a difficult catch away from his body and then maintaining a secure grasp of the ball as he went down. Johnson logged 15 snaps overall while helping fill in for Antonio Brown, who appeared to spend large portions of the second half on the sideline with what was later labeled as a knee issue. If Brown is limited again or ruled out for Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Packers, Johnson may once again see some run as a complementary target.
JANUARY 18, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
One catch in season-ending win Johnson brought in one of two targets for a 16-yard reception in the Buccaneers' 44-27 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
Impact The rookie saw some opportunities with Mike Evans (knee) exiting the game for good in the first quarter, a development that allowed Johnson to make an appearance on the stat sheet for the second straight week. Johnson was considered a steal as a fifth-round selection last April after a productive college career, but the wealth of talent ahead of him -- which was augmented by the mid-season acquisition of Antonio Brown -- conspired to keep the former Golden Gopher near the bottom of the depth chart. The University of Minnesota product finished the regular season with a 12-169-2 line, and unless multiple injuries strike the receiving corps in the postseason, he appears likely to fill a very minor role during the Buccaneers' playoff run.
