Listed as backup on depth chart
Johnson is listed as a reserve on the unofficial depth chart the Jets released Sunday.
Impact
Garrett Wilson, Josh Reynolds and Allen Lazard are listed as starters, with Johnson behind Reynolds on the depth chart. Lazard's placement on the depth chart suggests he could be utilized in the slot, with Johnson as a reserve on the outside. Earlier reports from Jets beat writers in training camp suggested that Johnson has been outplaying Lazard in training camp.

Leading candidate for WR3 role?
Johnson appears to be the frontrunner for the third spot on the Jets' wide receiver depth chart, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Johnson has impressed the coaching staff with his athleticism and ability to get open by anticipating defensive backs' moves. The veteran wide receiver signed a one-year contract with the Jets in March without much fanfare, but he's putting himself in position to get playing time alongside Garrett Wilson and Josh Reynolds. Other receivers vying for roster spots include Arian Smith, Allen Lazard, Malachi Corley, Xavier Gipson and Jamaal Pritchett.

Signed by Gang Green
The Jets signed Johnson to a one-year contract Saturday, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.
Impact
Johnson saw modest numbers as a backup with the Rams in 2024, finishing with 26 catches (on 41 tarets) for 291 yards and one touchdown across 15 regular-season games. However, he was not active for the Rams' two playoff games, and he'll look to get more involved in the Jets' passing attack alongside Garrett Wilson.

Modest numbers as a backup
Johnson caught 26 passes for 291 yards and a touchdown during the 2024 regular season.
Impact
Given the Rams' injury woes for much of the season, Johnson's second season with the team bore more fruit, as he was on the field for 345 snaps on offense and held his own when pressed into significant action, including a 5-79-0 line in the Week 1 opener against the Lions. The Rams have a lot of questions in the offseason at wide receiver, with Cooper Kupp a candidate for trade or release and Demarcus Robinson, Tutu Atwell and Johnson all unrestricted free agents, but Johnson's budding role may entice the Rams to give him another shot to work alongside Puka Nacua, Jordan Whittington and Xavier Smith.

Healthy scratch in divisional round
Johnson (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's NFC divisional-round game against the Eagles.
Impact
Johnson was also a healthy scratch for Monday's 27-9 wild-card win over the Vikings. The 2020 fifth-round pick saw significant playing time earlier in the year when wideouts Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua were injured. But, he caught just five passes over the final eight weeks of the regular season, and four of these receptions came in the regular-season finale when the Rams rested Kupp and Nacua. With Johnson sidelined, Nacua, Kupp, Demarcus Robinson, Tutu Atwell, Jordan Whittington and Xavier Smith will serve as the active wideouts for Los Angeles on Sunday.

Not playing in wild-card round
Johnson (coach's decision) is inactive for Monday's NFC wild-card game against the Vikings, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
Impact
Johnson tied a season high with 49 offensive snap during the Rams' regular-season finale against the Seahawks due to both Pakua Nacua and Cooper Kupp being sidelined for rest purposes, and Johnson finished the game with four catches (on seven targets) for 35 yards and one touchdown. Johnson will observe Monday's game in street clothes, though he could be active for the Rams' divisional-round game if they beat the Vikings.

ROTOWIRE
Inactive for Week 16
Johnson (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.
Impact
Johnson has been held without a catch in each of the Rams' last three games, and he will observe Sunday's game from the sidelines. His next opportunity to play will be Week 17 against the Cardinals on Saturday, Dec. 28. Demarcus Robinson, Tutu Atwell and Jordan Whittington will serve as the Rams' depth wideouts behind Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp due to Johnson's absence.

Goes catchless in third straight game
Johnson went without a target while playing five of the Rams' 65 snaps on offense in Thursday's 12-6 win over the 49ers.
Impact
Johnson has failed to record a reception in the Rams' last three games and has gone without a target in the last two contests. The 26-year-old finished sixth among Los Angeles receivers in snaps in Week 15, trailing Cooper Kupp (55), Demarcus Robinson (51), Puka Nacua (50), Tutu Atwell (20) and Jordan Whittington (10).

Makes 11-yard catch
Johnson caught his only target for 11 yards during Sunday's 37-20 loss to the Eagles.
Impact
The veteran's only contribution for the team was a fourth-quarter grab that garnered a first down for the Rams. Johnson and Tutu Atwell were the only receivers to spell starters Puka Nacua, Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Robinson, and that role seems unlikely to change even with a tantalizing matchup against an exploitable Saints defense on tap for Week 13.

ROTOWIRE
Blanked for third time this season
Johnson failed to record a catch during Sunday's 28-22 win against the Patriots.
Impact
Johnson was on the field for a season-low seven snaps, and his usage puts him clearly in the backup tier along with Tutu Atwell and Jordan Whittington. Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp combined to put up a monster 13-229-3 line, and Demarcus Robinson continued his role as the tertiary target at wideout. Johnson's role is unlikely to change barring injury, and a difficult matchup against the Eagles lies in wait in Week 12.

ROTOWIRE
Garners three catches in light use
Johnson secured three of four targets for 25 yards during Sunday's 23-15 loss to the Dolphins.
Impact
Johnson earned the most targets and catches out of the backup group of receivers, alongside Tutu Atwell (one catch for six yards) and Jordan Whittington (zero targets). While Johnson has proven to be a reliable target for Matthew Stafford when needed this season, his ten snaps tied a season-low, and he'll be hard to trust in rosters given his reduced time on the field. A Patriots defense that just held the Bears to 120 receiving yards is up next for the Rams in Week 11.
