Shi Smith and Alex Erickson will continue to vie for snaps in three-receiver sets alongside DJ Moore and Robby Anderson, though their roles aren't expected to be fruitful with Sam Darnold struggling to connect with any receivers besides Moore on a consistent basis. Marshall will look to return to action in Week 9 against the Patriots.

Marshall has had a slow start to his NFL career despite seeing at least 50 percent of the Panthers' offensive snaps in five of six games, hauling in 14 of 22 targets for 116 yards and no TDs. With Marshall and fellow wide receiver Alex Erickson diagnosed with concussions, the Panthers are left with Shi Smith at the position on the active roster behind starters DJ Moore and Robby Anderson.
