INJURIES

Two catches in Week 7 win Marshall secured two of three targets for 31 yards in the Panthers' 21-3 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Impact With the Panthers playing their first game without both Christian McCaffrey and Robbie Anderson, Marshall stepped up with the second-highest receiving yardage total on the day behind DJ Moore. The second-year wideout was one of four pass catchers to record a gain of at least 20 yards through the air, and it's possible Marshall develops into a reliable No. 2 option alongside Moore if he can continue to outperform Laviska Shenault and Shi Smith.

Could replace Robbie Anderson? Coach Steve Wilks said Marshall and Laviska Shenault (hamstring) both looked good at Wednesday's practice, with Wilks declining to name a replacement in the starting lineup for Rob...
Impact Anderson caught 13 of 27 targets for 206 yards and a touchdown in six games before the Panthers traded him to Arizona on Monday. The TD and more than one-third of his yardage came on a broken coverage Week 1, with that and one long catch-and-run by Shenault in Week 3 representing a large chunk of the team's WR production this year. It's hard to imagine Marshall or Shenault making a serious dent in an offense where D.J. Moore is averaging only 34.0 yards per game, but the pair of second-round picks will at least have a chance at more playing time. Shi Smith has been the team's No. 3 receiver so far, and with 105 yards on the season his spot could come into question soon as well.

Just one look Marshall didn't catch his only target in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Rams.
Impact Marshall played 45 percent of Carolina's offensive snaps but failed to find the stat sheet. Although he's hardly featured to begin his second season, the 2021 second-round pick could see his opportunities increase following Monday's trade of fellow wideout Robbie Anderson. With P.J. Walker (neck) being injured Sunday, however, it's unclear who will be under center for Week 7's game versus the Buccaneers.
OCTOBER 17, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Tallies first receptions of 2022 Marshall was on the field for 26 of the Panthers' 69 snaps on offense in Sunday's 37-15 loss to the 49ers, finishing with four receptions for 30 yards on four targets.
Impact While taking the field for just the second time in five games this season, Marshall stepped in as the Panthers' No. 4 wideout ahead of Rashard Higgins while Laviska Shenault (hamstring) was inactive. Though his 7.5 yards per target were better than the Panthers' mark as a team on the day (6.5), it's worth noting that two of Marshall's looks came in garbage time, when P.J. Walker took over under center for Baker Mayfield. Walker should get the chance to start Week 6 against the Rams with Mayfield likely to sit out that game due to a high-ankle sprain, but whether Marshall gets the chance to continue establishing a rapport with Walker will likely hinge on Shenault's availability.
OCTOBER 10, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Healthy scratch again Marshall (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Cardinals, Darin Gantt of Panthers' official site reports.
Impact Marshall will sit again, as Laviska Shenault has pushed him down the wide receiver depth chart. He'll use practice this week to try and earn a chance to be active in Week 5 against the 49ers.

Mayfield, Panthers passing game a concern despite 1st win

While the Carolina Panthers earned their first win of the season with a 22-14 victory over the New Orleans Saints, the passing game remains a major issue
SEPTEMBER 26, 2022 • Associated Press
Healthy scratch Sunday Marshall (coach's decision) is inactive against the Saints on Sunday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
Impact Marshall is the wide receiver who will sit as Laviska Shenault will be active for the first time as a Panther. The former continues to struggle to make headway on the team's positional depth chart, not playing a single-snap in Week 1, then following that up with just six in Week 2.
SEPTEMBER 25, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Plays six offensive snaps in loss Marshall failed to draw a single target in Sunday's 19-16 loss to the Giants.
Impact After failing to play any offensive snaps in Week 1, Marshall did see limited game action against the Giants. Unfortunately, the 22-year-old wideout was not targeted by quarterback Baker Mayfield on any of his six offensive snaps as he continues to be an afterthought in Carolina's offensive game plan. Marshall will remain off the fantasy radar when the Panthers host the Saints in Week 3.
SEPTEMBER 21, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Making progress per coach Coach Matt Rhule said Marshall had his best week of practice this week and added that he's "hopeful" Marshall will see the field in Week 2, Ellis Williams of the Charlotte Observer...
Impact Marshall didn't play a single snap in the season opener. The 2021 second-round pick doesn't appear to be injured, so whether Marshall sees the field will come down to whether his coach believes the wide receiver's ready to contribute.

AUGUST 29, 2022 • THEATHLETIC.COM
Returns to practice Marshall (hamstring) returned to practice Monday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Impact Marshall missed the Panthers' first two preseason games, while Rashard Higgins caught five of six targets for 33 yards and a touchdown. Marshall, Higgins and Brandon Zylstra seem to be competing for the No. 3 receiver job behind DJ Moore (shoulder) and Robbie Anderson (quadriceps), both of whom also have dealt with minor injuries this summer.
AUGUST 22, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Hamstring issue Marshall (hamstring) isn't in line to play in Friday's preseason game against the Patriots, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Impact Person relays that the wideout isn't in uniform for the contest after aggravating his hamstring. Marshall's next chance to suit up for preseason action arrives next Friday versus the Bills.
AUGUST 19, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Returns to practice Marshall (lower leg) was back on the field practicing in full Monday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
Impact Marshall's injury was first reported Aug. 5, and he's been out or limited during practice ever since. Selected in the second round of the 2021 Draft, he struggled last season, only catching 17 passes on 30 targets for 138 yards in 13 games. Now healthy, Marshall will look to establish himself on the Panthers' positional depth chart, while working towards a breakout sophomore campaign.

AUGUST 14, 2022 • NEWSOBSERVER.COM
In line to return to practice Coach Matt Rhule expects Marshall (lower leg) to take part in joint practices with the Patriots on Tuesday and Wednesday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Marshall has been dealing with a lower leg strain for more than a week, donning a red non-contact jersey in practice and sitting out the Panthers' preseason opener Saturday at Washington. Assuming he's able to get back on the field for one or both of the joint sessions with the Pats, he'll have a decent shot to be available for Friday's exhibition at Foxboro.
AUGUST 13, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Still missing time Marshall (lower leg) will not play in Saturday's preseason matchup against the Commanders.
Impact This isn't a particularly surprising decision as Marshall has been dealing with a lower leg strain for most of training camp. DJ Moore and Christian McCaffrey are both healthy absences for the preseason opener, which means Rashard Higgins should see the majority of first-team reps at wide receiver.
AUGUST 13, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
In non-contact jersey Marshall (lower leg) is practicing Tuesday with a red non-contact jersey, Joe Person of The Athleticreports.
Impact Marshall suffered a lower leg strain last week, so it's encouraging to see him back on the practice field even as a non-contact participant. The second-year pro is working to take a step forward in Carolina's offense after recording just 138 receiving yards in 13 games as a rookie. Marshall has a few more days to heal up prior to Saturday's preseason opener against Washington.
AUGUST 9, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Strains lower leg Marshall has a lower leg strain, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Impact Person didn't speak to the severity of the injury, so Marshall can be viewed as day-to-day until an update emerges. Carolina's 2021 second-round selection has just over a week to heal up before the team's Aug. 13 preseason opener against Washington.

Showing more comfort in Year 2 Marshall said he's more comfortable running routes and processing while on the field heading into his second season, Joseph Person of The Athletic reports.
Impact Star tailback Christian McCaffrey said Marshall has taken a "massive leap" in his second offseason with the club, raising expectations for the wideout after an underwhelming rookie campaign that included just 17 catches for 138 yards in 13 games. A second-round pick in 2021, Marshall will need to acclimate to new coordinator Ben McAdoo's scheme while competing with veteran addition Rashard Higgins for Carolina's third-wideout role behind DJ Moore and Robbie Anderson. While Marshall's progress this offseason is encouraging to note, he'll also potentially face a change at quarterback, as the Panthers acquired Baker Mayfield on Wednesday to compete with Sam Darnold for the starting job in training camp and the preseason.
