Another start awaits

Impact
While McCaffrey was out in last weekend's loss to the Buccaneers, Davis struggled to produce against a tough Tampa Bay defense, finishing with 32 yards on seven carries and 12 yards on four receptions. As Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer notes, Davis also missed some time while getting a dislocated finger addressed in the locker room, but he was able to return to action and doesn't look in any real danger of being limited Week 11. A matchup this weekend with Detroit's 30th-ranked run defense (141.6 yards per game) presents a favorable bounce-back opportunity for the 27-year-old.

Scant opportunity in lopsided loss
Davis rushed seven times for 32 yards and brought in four of five targets for 12 yards in the Panthers' 46-23 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Impact
The versatile back was held back by both a finger injury and game script Sunday, leading to a disappointing afternoon for those who'd held high hopes for him in another spot start for Christian McCaffrey (shoulder). Davis' challenge on the ground was always going to be steep versus the Buccaneers' elite front seven, but Tampa Bay also did a good job defending the 27-year-old when he served as an outlet option for Teddy Bridgewater. McCaffrey reportedly has a solid chance of returning Week 11 against the Lions, a development that would figure to relegate Davis to part-time duty should it transpire.

Back in Sunday's game
Davis (finger) returned to Sunday's contest against the Buccaneers, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.
Impact

Injures finger Sunday
Davis suffered a finger injury during Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Bill Voth of the Panthers' official site reports.
Impact
Davis hit the locker room in the second half before the Panthers deemed him questionable to return to action. If he fails to do so, he'll finish Week 10 with nine touches for 39 yards from scrimmage.

Likely to lead backfield Week 10

Impact
After missing six straight games with a high-ankle sprain, McCaffrey immediately unseated Davis as Carolina's feature back in Sunday's 33-31 loss to the Chiefs, playing 71 percent of the offensive snaps while accruing 151 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on 28 touches. However, McCaffrey picked up a painful shoulder injury along the way, and his latest setback looks like it will result in him missing time again. The Panthers likely won't provide a clear timeline for McCaffrey's return until he receives a second opinion on the injury later this week, but Davis should be rostered in all fantasy leagues while the former's health situation remains unclear. While McCaffrey was hurt earlier this season, Davis proved to be a capable fantasy option in his stead, averaging 86.5 yards from scrimmage and 5.8 targets per contest while scoring four touchdowns over that six-game stretch.

Garners six touches
Davis rushed once for three yards and caught five of six targets for 34 yards in Sunday's 33-31 loss to the Chiefs.
Impact
Davis ceded the majority of Carolina's snaps at tailback following the return of star Christian McCaffrey, but the veteran still featured on nearly a third of his team's offensive plays. With that involvement, Davis managed to haul in a handful of passes, salvaging some value despite making close to no impact on the ground. Although McCaffrey missing the final play of the game with a rib issue of unknown severity is something to monitor in advance of Week 10's matchup versus the Buccaneers, Sunday's game showed what the Panthers' backfield split could look like going forward should both players remain healthy.

Likely to rotate with CMC
Davis is expected to rotate series at running back with Christian McCaffrey (ankle) during Sunday's game in Kansas City, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact
Brought off injured reserve Saturday, McCaffrey will be suiting up this weekend for the first time since sustaining a high-ankle sprain Week 2. While the reigning All-Pro will settle back in atop the depth chart in his return, Davis has apparently earned a role for himself in the offense after impressing while starting in place of McCaffrey over the past six games. Davis' fantasy value is still expected to take a big hit with McCaffrey back in the fold, but the former may still be worth stashing on the bench in deeper leagues if the Panthers elect to stick with a rotation between the two throughout the second half of the season. Rapoport suggested the McCaffrey-Davis pairing could be comparable to how the Saints use Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray, with Davis filling the Murray role in this case.

Impact
The Panthers may wait until Saturday to formally add him to the 53-man roster, but McCaffrey should be ready to reclaim a high-volume role for Carolina after missing the previous six games with a high-ankle sprain. Per Steve Reed of the Associated Press, Rhule said earlier this week that he still wants Davis to have some involvement in the game plan, so McCaffrey won't necessarily handle the 90-plus-percent offensive snap shares he routinely played under former head coach Ron Rivera. Given Carolina's long-term investment in McCaffrey, however, it's unlikely that Rhule opts for anything close to a true timeshare at running back, making Davis a justifiable drop in most fantasy leagues following an impressive run as Carolina's starter. During McCaffrey's six-game absence, Davis scored four touchdowns and caught 30 passes while averaging 86.5 scrimmage yards per contest.

Garners 77 total yards in loss
Davis rushed 13 times for 66 yards and secured one of two targets for 11 yards in the Panthers' 25-17 loss to the Falcons on Thursday night.
Impact
Following a pair of forgettable outings versus the Bears and Saints, Davis enjoyed a resurgence in the run game against what had been a stingy Falcons front seven. However, the versatile back's overall touches were limited by game script in the latter portion of the contest, leading to the 27-year-old's lowest target count of any game this season with the exception of Week 1, when he saw just three snaps from scrimmage. Christian McCaffrey is expected to return to action in the Week 9 road matchup against the Chiefs on Sunday, Nov. 8, so it remains to be seen how much work will be left over for Davis under that scenario.
