Abbreviated workload in Week 3
Ingram rushed six times for 21 yards and secured his only target for minus-1 yard in the Texans' 24-9 loss to the Panthers on Thursday night.
Impact
Ingram's rushing yardage tally did pace the Texans on the night, but given how lackluster a game it was for the ground attack, that's faint praise. The veteran would appear to have clear possession of the lead-back role at the moment -- Phillip Lindsay logged one more carry Thursday yet averaged under 1.0 yard per tote -- but he could certainly find running room at a premium again in a Week 4 road matchup against the Bills on Sunday, Oct. 3 due to rookie quarterback Davis Mills not presenting himself as an imposing threat to a talented Buffalo defense.

Rookie QB could impact production
Ingram could face a Panthers defense geared to stop the run Week 3 after the Browns stacked the box with eight or more defenders 57.1 percent of the time against rookie quarterback...
Impact
The Browns invited Mills to throw, and he completed just eight of 18 passes for 102 yards in the Week 2 loss. When Mills was on the field, Houston's ground game came to a halt, with the team gaining just 27 yards on 14 carries. As the NFL can be a copycat league, expect Ingram and fellow backs Phillip Lindsay, David Johnson and Rex Burkhead to get little room to operate against Carolina.

Works as lead back again
Ingram rushed 14 times for 41 yards and secured one of two targets for minus-1 yard in the Texans' 31-21 loss to the Browns on Sunday.
Impact
While a Texans backfield that features three accomplished veteran backs rightfully gives fantasy managers jitters, Ingram has worked as the clear lead back over the first two games of the season. Whether that holds remains to be seen, but Ingram did outpace David Johnson and Phillip Lindsay by eight and nine carries, respectively, against Cleveland, albeit with not much production to show for it. It will be interesting to see if the workload among the trio is more evenly distributed with the quick four-day turnaround for a Week 3 interleague matchup against the Panthers.

Easily leads backfield
Ingram had 26 carries for 85 yards and one touchdown and couldn't haul in his only target during Sunday's 37-21 win versus the Jaguars.
Impact
There was some question regarding how a backfield populated by Ingram, Phillip Lindsay, David Johnson and Rex Burkhead would pan out, but the former easily handled most of the touches among the quartet (26 versus 15 combined for the last three). Ingram's efficiency was another matter, as he managed just 3.3 yards per rush. But Lindsay (3.1 YPC) and Johnson (3.3) didn't fare much better behind the Texans' offensive line. If Ingram receives such volume on a weekly basis, he'll be worthwhile to start in most formats for that fact alone. If another of the group got a hot hand, though, we could see Ingram yield reps to one of Lindsay or Johnson.

Leads backfield in preseason finale
Ingram carried the ball 11 times for 44 yards in Saturday's preseason game against Tampa Bay. He also recorded one catch for three yards.
Impact
Ingram entered the game on the team's second possession and logged six of his 11 carries. His performance was largely unremarkable, though he did manage a few chunk gains of 11, six and seven yards during the second quarter. Ingram figures to play a role in the team's running back picture in Week 1 against Jacksonville, though it's unclear how work will be divided between him, Phillip Lindsay and David Johnson.

Scores short TD in preseason win
Ingram carried the ball seven times for 24 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason win over the Cowboys.
Impact
The veteran running back got the start for Houston and finished up the team's opening drive by scoring from two yards out, giving the Texans their only offensive TD of the night. Ingram only saw action in the first quarter, but he still split snaps and touches with Phillip Lindsay and David Johnson. While the goal-line carry is promising, it came one play after Lindsay got a chance from the four-yard line. This is shaping up to be a true backfield committee during the regular season, which would put a very firm ceiling on Ingram's fantasy value.

Looks safe for roster spot
Ingram's job appears secure, according to Aaron Reiss of The Athletic.
Impact
The thinking is that Ingram would've played in the preseason opener if he were battling for a roster spot. Instead, he was a healthy scratch, while Phillip Lindsay got the start and David Johnson was limited to a third-down role. This could end up being a three-man committee, as the Texans don't have much financial incentive to trade/release Johnson even if the new coaching staff doesn't view him as a viable lead ballcarrier. The team's initial preseason depth chart lists both Ingram and Lindsay as starters, with Johnson a second-stringer.

Listed as co-starter
The Texans' unofficial depth chart lists Ingram and Phillip Lindsay as co-starters, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact
Meanwhile, David Johnson and Rex Burkhead are listed as second-teamers. Each of the team's top four running backs have had success at the NFL level and things here appear to be trending in a committee/hot hand direction. While the pecking order that's listed on the team's unofficial depth chart could shuffle in the coming weeks, it's worth mentioning, as John McClain of the Houston Chronicle notes that Ingram and coach David Culley, who was the Ravens' receivers coach the past two years when Ingram was with Baltimore, have a strong working relationship.

Could get the axe
Ingram could find himself on the wrong side of the Texans' roster bubble once the preseason concludes, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
There's no hard intel here, but rather idle speculation based on the fact the Texans are deep at running back. The additions of Phillip Lindsay and the recently signed Rex Burkhead to the 53-man roster could leave Ingram as the odd man out. All three are currently behind David Johnson on the depth chart, and it doesn't help Ingram's cause that he doesn't augment his value on offense by contributing on special teams like Burkhead does.
