Impact The oft-maligned 2021 third overall pick of the 49ers is set to get a long look from his third NFL team this summer, and head coach Jim Harbaugh wasted no time in getting Lance into extended game action. The strong-armed North Dakota State product put together an encouraging body of work overall and connected with Will Dissly (five yards) and KeAndre Lambert-Smith (15 yards) for his pair of scoring tosses in the first and second quarter, respectively. Lance remained in the game for the first three quarters, leading the Chargers to 27 points overall and also seeing a third potential TD pass of nine yards to Dalevon Campbell overturned via replay late in the third quarter. Lance certainly didn't hurt his case for a roster spot with Thursday's performance, but Taylor Heinicke will likely get his chance to state his case to hang on to the No. 2 role in coming preseason games.

Will Dissly - Finds end zone in preseason opener Dissly brought in both targets for 14 yards and a touchdown during the Chargers' 34-7 preseason win over the Lions in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game.
Impact The veteran tight end capped off the Chargers' first drive with a nifty five-yard touchdown grab on a perfect touch pass from Trey Lance. Dissly broke out in 2024 with a career-best 50-481-2 receiving line over 15 regular-season games, and he's slated to open the regular season with at least a share of the top tight end job again in 2025 despite the additions of Tyler Conklin and Oronde Gadsden via free agency and the draft, respectively.

KeAndre Lambert-Smith - Keeps rolling in preseason opener Lambert-Smith secured both targets for 43 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers' 34-7 preseason win over the Lions in Thursday night's Hall of Fame Game.
Impact Lambert-Smith set the pace for the Chargers in receiving yards while also sharing the team lead in receptions with multiple teammates. The rookie fifth-round pick, who's been standing out during the early stages of training camp, flashed his speed on a game-long 28-yard reception during Los Angeles' second possession, when he beat 2024 second-round pick Ennis Rakestraw down the right side of the field. Lambert-Smith then capped off his night with a 15-yard touchdown grab just past the two-minute mark of the second quarter, closing out a performance that served as an ideal carryover from Lambert-Smith's work on the practice field. The Auburn product is slotted in the latter portion of the Chargers' wide receiver depth chart at the moment, but he'll seemingly be given plenty of opportunity to make a case for a solid rookie-season rotational role on a team that's prioritized adding playmaking prowess to the offense all offseason.
