INJURIES

Catches passes on rehab field Ross (hamstring) ran and caught some passes on a side field during Thursday's practice, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Impact The oft-injured wideout has been sidelined by a hamstring injury ever since his early departure from practice Aug. 9. Ross will miss the entire preseason, and it's even possible he could miss out on a roster spot despite getting $1 million guaranteed on his one-year, $2.25 million contract with the Giants. Even if he sticks with the team and continues to make progress with the hamstring, Ross is unlikely to be any more than the fourth or fifth wide receiver for Week 1.

Injured at practice Ross (upper leg) departed Monday's practice early due to an apparent injury, Matt Lombardo of GMenHQ.com reports.
Impact Ross grabbed at his upper leg during a 7-on-7 rep and immediately was tended to by the Giants' training staff. The speedster then spent the rest of practice off to the side, watching teammates. Ross has endured a number of injuries in his NFL career, including a foot issue that limited him to just three games in 2020. Less than a week remains before Aug. 14's preseason contest against the Jets.

Speedy WR John Ross hoping things click with the N.Y. Giants

There is little doubt John Ross hasn’t lived up to expectations after being taken with the ninth pick overall in 2017

Looks healthy on Day 1 Ross flashed his speed at Wednesday's practice while taking reps as a kick returner, Art Stapleton of northjersey.com reports.
Impact The oft-injured wideout seems to be healthy for the start of training camp after dealing with an undisclosed issue during the offseason program. Ross has $1 million guaranteed on his one-year, $2.25 million contract, so while the Giants clearly expect him to make the Week 1 roster, it won't be a sure thing if he struggles this summer. Return reps could increase his value, as the Giants have a fairly deep group at wide receiver after adding Kenny Golladay and first-round pick Kadarius Toney in the offseason. With Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton also on the team, Ross mostly figures to work with the second-string offense during training camp.
JULY 29, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Banged up again? Ross participated in June minicamp but appeared to be dealing with an injury, NJ.com's Zack Rosenblatt reports.
Impact Ross reportedly left practice early, a common theme throughout this career. The 2017 first-round pick played only 27 games in his four years with the Bengals, and a foot injury kept him off the field after Week 6 last season. It's unclear if his limitations in June were related to the foot issue, but either way, he'll have some time to get healthy before training camp starts at the end of July. Ross got $1 million guaranteed on a one-year, $2.5 million contract, so he should have the inside track to the fourth or fifth wideout spot if he can somehow stay healthy.

Catches on with Giants Ross (foot) has signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Giants, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Per the report, $1 million of the wideout's deal is guaranteed. Assuming he's past the foot issue that derailed his 2020 campaign, the 2017 first-rounder will add some much-needed speed to the Giants' pass-catching corps. Ross has much to prove after faltering during his four-year tenure with the Bengals, but when healthy, the 25-year-old has the wheels to serve as a big play threat. With a fresh start in New York, a 2021 bounce-back is plausible.

Lands on IR The Bengals have placed Ross (foot) on injured reserve, Marisa Contipelli of the Bengals' official site reports.
Impact Ross has not played since Week 6 due to a variety of issues. He will now be sidelined at least the next three games. It has been rumored that the 24-year-old and 2017 first-round pick could be transitioned into cornerback due to the team's lack of depth at the position. However, for now he will simply focus on his foot recovery.
NOVEMBER 14, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Not moving to corner Ross (foot) never actually practiced at cornerback and only discussed moving to the position with the Bengals' coaching staff, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Impact This follows an initially incorrect report by Garafolo that Ross had actually injured his foot while practicing at cornerback. The Bengals' dire need to provide depth at cornerback at least allowed them to broach the conversation with the 24-year-old, but no positional move appears to be imminent, especially after Ross suffered a foot injury, which will keep him out for Week 10 and potentially future weeks.
NOVEMBER 14, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Bengals' John Ross injured during practice filling in at defensive back, per report NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported that the Bengals asked Ross to try to play cornerback to help the team's depleted secondary.
NOVEMBER 14, 2020 • CINCINNATI.COM
Injured transitioning to corner Ross, who will not play in Week 10 after injuring his foot, was practicing at cornerback when he suffered the injury, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Impact The 2017 first-round pick has not played more than one offensive snap since Week 3, so the Bengals attempted to have their speedy wideout essentially act as an emergency cornerback considering the team's lack of depth after injuries and COVID-19 have ruled out four corners entering Week 10. It would have been interesting to see if this was simply a one-week deal or if the Bengals truly planned to convert Ross to a different position, but it's a moot point after the 24-year-old injured his foot on the second practice rep. Garafolo seems to believe the injury could keep Ross out for an extended time, though the Bengals have not been forthcoming regarding the designation. More information regarding the severity of the injury should come in the following days.
NOVEMBER 14, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Ruled out for Week 10 Ross (foot) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Steelers, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Impact Ross hasn't suited up for game action since Week 6. The 2017 first-round pick is now dealing with a foot injury, but even if he does get healthy soon, it seems unlikely that he'll be a notable factor on offense behind Tyler Boyd, A.J. Green and Tee Higgins.
NOVEMBER 13, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Shakes off ailment Ross (illness) was absent from Wednesday's injury report, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
Impact Ross missed Week 8 against Tennessee with the illness, but coming out of the team's bye week it appears he's returned to full strength. The 2017 first-round pick has seen himself slide down the receiver depth chart in Cincinnati, with the position group will be led by Tyler Boyd, A.J. Green and Tee Higgins, Ross' return likely won't affect the offense too much.

NOVEMBER 1, 2020 • Associated Press
Out Week 8 with illness Ross (illness) is listed as inactive Week 8 against Tennessee, Marisa Contipelli of the Bengals' official site reports.
Impact No surprises here, as Ross entered Week 8 with a "doubtful" tag after missing practice sessions both Thursday and Friday. The position group will be led by Tyler Boyd, A.J. Green and Tee Higgins, as has been the case most weeks this season, even if Ross were healthy and active.
