Status in question for Sunday
Wilson (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's NFC Championship Game at the Rams, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
After missing the first two practices of the week, Wilson at least was present at Friday's session as a limited participant, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Earlier this week, coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that Wilson is dealing with a low-ankle sprain suffered during the opening kickoff of the 49ers' divisional-round win at Green Bay. Ultimately, Wilson's status won't be confirmed until 90 minutes before Sunday's 6:30 p.m. ET kickoff.

Still not practicing
Wilson (ankle) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
Wilson was expected to be limited Wednesday, but with back-to-back DNPs so far this week, he appears to be trending in the wrong direction. Per Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News, Wilson even departed Thursday's session and went indoors after team stretches. In the end, Friday's practice report may provide a sense of whether or not Wilson has a chance to play in Sunday's NFC Championship Game at the Rams.

No practice Wednesday
Wilson (ankle) was held out of practice Wednesday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact
Per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, head coach Kyle Shanahan labeled Wilson as a limited participant on the 49ers' pre-practice report, but the running back ended up logging no activity to begin the week. Wilson is tending to a low-ankle sprain that he sustained on the opening kickoff of the team's divisional-round win in Green Bay. He'll have two more chances to put himself in a position for his typical special-teams role ahead of Sunday's NFC Championship Game at the Rams.

Limited with ankle sprain
Wilson (ankle) will be a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
Wilson has played just three snaps on offense through the first two weeks of the playoffs, and he suffered a low-ankle sprain while covering a kickoff in the divisional-round win over Green Bay. Head coach Kyle Shanahan suggested Wilson could still play against the Rams this Sunday, a notion supported by the limited practice Wednesday.

May be able to play Sunday
Wilson suffered a low-ankle sprain during Saturday's divisional-round win in Green Bay but has a chance to play in Sunday's NFC Championship Game at the Rams, Jennifer Lee Chan of...
Impact
Wilson picked up the injury while in coverage on the opening kickoff this past Saturday. Fortunately for the fourth-year running back, he doesn't have a more serious high-ankle sprain, per coach Kyle Shanahan. Wilson's activity level in practice this week likely will determine whether he's able to suit up Sunday.

Will not return
Wilson (ankle) will not return to Saturday's game against the Packers, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
Wilson injured his ankle on a special-teams play. His absence could open up more snaps for the 49ers' other reserve running backs.

Injures ankle
Wilson was forced out of Saturday's playoff game against the Packers with an ankle injury, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
Per Maiocco, Wilson sustained the injury while playing on special teams. His absence thins the 49ers' backfield depth behind top option Elijah Mitchell.

Just six snaps on offense
Wilson was on the field for six offensive snaps (nine percent) and did not record a touch in Sunday's 27-24 overtime win over the Rams.
Impact
Elijah Mitchell (knee) was cleared of injury designation heading into the matchup, leaving Wilson in a reserve role with JaMycal Hasty handling third-down duties. The veteran tailback finishes the 2021 regular season with 294 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 79 carries (3.7 YPC), most of which came during a three-week stretch where Wilson filled in for an injured Mitchell. The 25-year-old has worked hard to earn a solid four-year run with the 49ers after going undrafted in 2018, but this appears to be a transition year for San Francisco's backfield, so Wilson may find himself in another uniform as he enters free agency this upcoming offseason.

Gets 12 snaps as backup
Wilson was on the field for 12 offensive snaps (19 percent) and did not receive a touch in Sunday's 23-7 win over Houston.
Impact
Elijah Mitchell (knee) returned from a three-game absence, bumping Wilson back into a backup role in the process. The lack of touches comes as a bit of a surprise, although the veteran back wasn't expected to have a significant role once the 49ers' starter returned. Fellow backup, JaMycal Hasty, stuck in his third-down role and finished with seven snaps on offense. Neither backup will have fantasy value against the Rams next Sunday as long as Mitchell remains healthy.

Stymied in Week 16 start
Wilson rushed 14 times for 45 yards and a touchdown and brought in all three targets for 12 yards in the 49ers' 20-17 loss to the Titans on Thursday night.
Impact
Wilson's night got off to an encouraging start when he capped off a nine-play, 75-yard opening drive with a one-yard touchdown run. He also garnered 14 total yards on three touches in the first three plays of San Francisco's second possession, but it was a mostly quiet night for Wilson thereafter against a Titans defense that had come into the contest allowing the fewest rushing yards per game of any team on its home field. Elijah Mitchell (concussion/knee) should have a chance to get back for the 49ers' Week 17 home date against the Texans a week from Sunday, a development that would almost certainly see Wilson revert to a modest complementary role.

In line for another start
Wilson is slated to be the 49ers' lead running back Thursday at Tennessee after Elijah Mitchell (knee) was ruled out for the contest.
Impact
Mitchell cleared the concussion protocol earlier this week, but his knee issue was bothersome enough to keep him off the practice field Tuesday and Wednesday and on the sideline for a third straight game. Wilson has taken on a majority share of the running back reps in the meantime, racking up 36 touches for 175 yards from scrimmage and one rushing TD. JaMycal Hasty is the only other RB on the active roster, but wide receiver Deebo Samuel and even fullback Kyle Juszczyk are likelier options to earn touches out of the backfield behind Wilson.

Shines in big victory
Wilson tallied 21 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown while catching both of his targets for nine more yards in Sunday's 31-13 win over Atlanta.
Impact
Wilson filled in for Elijah Mitchell (knee/concussion) for the second straight week, eclipsing the 100-yard mark for the first time this season in the process. The veteran back could have had an even bigger fantasy day, but two of 49ers' three rushing touchdowns went to two other players (Deebo Samuel and Kyle Juszczyk) who combined for just seven carries on the day. Head coach Kyle Shanahan hinted that Wilson may need to start for next Thursday's contest against the Titans, as Mitchell may not have enough time to recover with such a short week of rest. If that scenario plays out, Wilson could become a strong fantasy asset after finally looking healthy since returning from the PUP list midseason. The 26-year-old stated after the game that "I felt like myself. I felt like the old Jeff," according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, so keep an eye on Mitchell's status leading up to Thursday's contest.

May get two more games as lead back
Wilson is set to lead the 49ers backfield again with Elijah Mitchell (knee/concussion) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Falcons, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
Wilson was disappointing from a fantasy standpoint last week in his second start of the year, finishing without a target and unable to score his first touchdown of the season in a win over the Bengals. He did, however, lead the team with 13 carries, and his 59 percent snap share wasn't too far south of what Mitchell has seen this year (66.1 percent in nine games). The 49ers still have JaMycal Hasty and Kyle Juszczyk for passing downs and wideout Deebo Samuel as a big-play/red-zone threat on the ground, but Wilson is again a strong favorite to lead the team in carries. Furthermore, head coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledged Friday that he isn't especially optimistic about Mitchell's chances of returning for a Thursday game against the Titans in Week 16, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Leading rusher against Bengals
Wilson carried the ball 13 times for 56 yards in Sunday's 26-23 overtime win over the Bengals.
Impact
He led the Niners in carries and rushing yards as JaMycal Hasty and Kyle Juszczyk were confined to pass-catching duties, but it was Deebo Samuel who had the team's only rushing TD on the day. Wilson's modest fantasy value is tied to the health of Elijah Mitchell (concussion) heading into a Week 15 clash with the Falcons.

To split work with Hasty in Week 14
Wilson and JaMycal Hasty will be the 49ers' primary running backs Sunday at Cincinnati with both Elijah Mitchell (concussion/knee) and Trenton Cannon (concussion) ruled out for the...
Impact
The opportunity is there for Wilson to make an impact out of San Francisco's backfield, but he's coming off a game in which he lasted just one play on offense and 11 on special teams last Sunday at Seattle when he dinged up his surgically repaired knee. Since making his season debut Week 10, he's averaged 2.7 yards on his 31 carries and recorded two catches (on three targets) for 10 yards in four games. Considering Hasty has been more of a pass-catching threat this season -- he has 13 rushes and caught 13 of 18 targets -- Wilson may earn more of the early down and short-yardage work of the two players.

Logs full practice Thursday
Wilson (knee) practiced in full Thursday.
Impact
Wilson hurt his knee this past Sunday at Seattle, but after logging a limited session Wednesday he managed every practice rep one day later. He's put himself in a position to be utilized out of the 49ers backfield this Sunday at Cincinnati in the event Elijah Mitchell needs time off due to a concussion and a knee issue. If Mitchell doesn't make it through the protocol for head injuries, San Francisco will turn to Wilson and JaMycal Hasty as its main running backs Week 14. On the season, Wilson has averaged just 2.7 yards on his 31 carries and hauled in two of three targets for 10 yards in four appearances.

ROTOWIRE
Practicing on limited basis
Wilson (knee) will be a limited practice participant Wednesday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
Meanwhile, lead back Elijah Mitchell (knee/concussion) will sit out the first session of Week 14, potentially leaving Wilson in line to pick up a start Sunday against Cincinnati if he can move past what head coach Kyle Shanahan termed as a flareup of his surgically repaired knee. Both Wilson and Mitchell succumbed to their respective knee injuries in last week's loss to the Seahawks, and while neither back looks to be dealing with a serious concern, Mitchell has just six days to clear concussion protocol after entering it Monday. JaMycal Hasty and Kyle Jusczyk are the healthy backfield options on the active roster, with both primarily restricted to passing-down work despite the 49ers' numerous and never-ending injuries at the position.
