Loses fumble late Wilson rushed 12 times for 75 yards while adding three receptions for 31 yards in Sunday's 11-10 loss to Denver.
Impact Wilson had an impressive catch-and-run on the 49ers' final offensive drive, but he coughed up the rock near the first-down marker, effectively killing his team's comeback attempt. Other than the untimely fumble, the veteran back ran hard in his second start in place of the injured Elijah Mitchell (knee). The latter still has at least six weeks of recovery time left, and San Francisco is running out of healthy bodies in the backfield, so we can expect another heavy workload for Wilson against the Rams next Monday.

Leading rusher in Week 2 win Wilson carried the ball 18 times for 84 yards and caught both his targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 27-7 win over the Seahawks.
Impact He ceded some touches to rookie Tyrion Davis-Price in the second half of the comfortable win, but as expected, Wilson was the 49ers' backfield leader in the wake of Elijah Mitchell's knee injury. The team's overall offensive scheme could see some big changes with Jimmy Garoppolo taking over for Trey Lance (ankle) under center, but Wilson figures to retain a significant role in Week 3 against a Broncos defense that just gave up 69 rushing yards and a 4.6 YPC to Texans rookie Dameon Pierce.

No action in preseason opener Wilson did not log a carry or target in the 49ers' 28-21 preseason win over the Packers on Friday night.
Impact The fifth-year pro opened camp as the projected No. 2 back, yet even with Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) sidelined Friday, Wilson didn't see the field. Head coach Kyle Shanahan opted to give extensive playing time to rookie Tyrion Davis-Price, Trey Sermon, JaMycal Hasty and Jordan Mason, but with none of the quartet actually doing anything super to stand out, Wilson's depth-chart slotting likely wasn't affected by the night off.
AUGUST 13, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Begins camp in No. 2 role Wilson will open training camp as the No. 2 option behind Elijah Mitchell (knee) in San Francisco's backfield, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Impact Wilson will compete to hold off two recent third-round picks during training camp, Trey Sermon (2021) and Tyrion Davis-Price (2022), but Barrows reports that if the season began now, it would be the 26-year-old veteran backing up Mitchell. Barrows also notes that Wilson has looked substantially better during spring practices than he did while working his way back from injury last season, when he averaged a career-low 3.7 yards per carry in nine appearances. When fully healthy, Wilson has proven himself to be a capable ballcarrier in coach Kyle Shanahan's scheme, so his standing on the roster is worth keeping an eye on.
JULY 20, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Could make 53-man roster Wilson is one of four running backs projected to make the 49ers' 53-man roster to begin the 2022 season, according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Impact Wilson was considered a potential cut candidate after the 49ers selected a running back in the third round of consecutive drafts, but Branch believes the veteran's well-rounded skillset could outweigh the team's potential need for a third-down option (such as JaMycal Hasty). The 26-year-old Wilson will still have to prove his worth in camp along with re-establishing his durability after missing eight games last year. If Wilson makes the squad, his best prospects would be a backup role to Elijah Mitchell, so his fantasy stock remains low at the moment.

MARCH 29, 2022 • 49ERS.COM
Staying with San Francisco Wilson agreed Wednesday with the 49ers on a new contract, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
Impact The 26-year-old running back first latched on with the 49ers as an undrafted rookie in 2018, and he'll now stick in San Francisco for a fifth straight season. During his run with the team, Wilson has made nine starts -- including four in 2021 -- despite opening the season third or fourth on the team's depth chart most years. Heading into the 2022 season, Wilson will likely be behind Elijah Mitchell, at the very least, and he could also face additional competition for backup work if the Niners bring in another veteran and/or a draft pick. For now, the team has Mitchell, Wilson, Trey Sermon and JaMycal Hasty, with each of the four seemingly healthy after dealing with various injuries throughout 2021.
MARCH 23, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Not playing Sunday Wilson (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's NFC Championship Game at the Rams, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Wilson managed just one limited practice this past week due to a low-ankle sprain suffered in the 49ers' divisional-round win at Green Bay. With a mostly healthy backfield otherwise, San Francisco will keep Wilson in street clothes Sunday. Aside from lead back Elijah Mitchell, the trio of JaMycal Hasty, Trey Sermon and Trenton Cannon are on hand for RB and special teams reps that linger.

Status in question for Sunday Wilson (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's NFC Championship Game at the Rams, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact After missing the first two practices of the week, Wilson at least was present at Friday's session as a limited participant, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Earlier this week, coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that Wilson is dealing with a low-ankle sprain suffered during the opening kickoff of the 49ers' divisional-round win at Green Bay. Ultimately, Wilson's status won't be confirmed until 90 minutes before Sunday's 6:30 p.m. ET kickoff.
JANUARY 28, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Still not practicing Wilson (ankle) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact Wilson was expected to be limited Wednesday, but with back-to-back DNPs so far this week, he appears to be trending in the wrong direction. Per Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News, Wilson even departed Thursday's session and went indoors after team stretches. In the end, Friday's practice report may provide a sense of whether or not Wilson has a chance to play in Sunday's NFC Championship Game at the Rams.
