Shines in dramatic win McKissic caught five of six targets for 83 yards and took four carries for 10 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's 30-29 win over the Giants.
Impact It was a huge turnaround after the pass-catching back got just one carry and one target in the Week 1 loss to Los Angeles. It initially looked like more of the same Thursday night, but McKissic was steadily involved once he got his first touch midway through the second quarter. He even scored a two-yard TD on a 3rd-and-1 shortly before halftime, and his 56-yard catch in the fourth quarter set up a TD strike to TE Ricky Seals-Jones on the next play. Meanwhile, Antonio Gibson had 13 carries for 69 yards and two catches for four yards, dropping off from 23 touches the previous week. Even after the impressive performance, McKissic remains a risky fantasy play heading into Week 3 at Buffalo.

Quiet in season debut McKissic had one carry for eight yards and one incomplete target in Sunday's 2016 loss to the Chargers.
Impact McKissic played 36 percent of snaps on offense, mostly replacing Antonio Gibson in obvious passing situations. Pretty much everything worked against McKissic in this one, with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (hip) exiting early and Washington ultimately attempting only 21 passes in a game where the opponent dominated possession. McKissic should see a few more touches Thursday night against the Giants, but it does seem the backfield split has shifted more toward Gibson (20 carries, five targets Sunday) in his second pro season.

Could see more work sans Samuel McKissic can help Washington deal with Curtis Samuel's absence while the wide receiver is on injured reserve with a groin injury, according to Ben Standig of The Athletic.
Impact It doesn't mean McKissic will return to his 2020 role, as Washington now has a slot specialist in the form of Adam Humphries, while perimeter wideouts Cam Sims and Dyami Brown figure to be the more direct replacements for Samuel in terms of snap count. However, McKissic can do some of the same things as Samuel on short passes and jet sweeps, albeit without the extra gear that his injured teammate has when healthy. It thus stands to reason that McKissic could get a few extra snaps and touches the next few weeks, in addition to his role spelling Antonio Gibson in the backfield on passing downs. Washington opens its season with a home game against the Chargers on Sunday, sporting a healthy roster apart from Samuel and a few third-stringers.

FANTASY PLAYS: Players to start and sit for NFL Week 1

The start-or-sit dilemma is part of managing a fantasy football team
SEPTEMBER 9, 2021 • Associated Press
Involved only as receiver McKissic was targeted once and tallied one reception for four yards in Friday's preseason game against the Bengals.
Impact McKissic didn't see a rushing attempt, as both Antonio Gibson and Jaret Patterson handled carries with presumed starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Instead, McKissic recorded his lone touch of the game with a third-down reception that came just short of the yardage required. McKissic figures to serve primarily as a receiver out of Washington's backfield, with Antonio Gibson and Peyton Barber likely positioned to handle carries ahead of him.
AUGUST 21, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Appears safe in backup role McKissic seemingly enters the upcoming season with a decent amount of job security as Washington's No. 2 running back, Rhiannon Walker of The Athletic reports.
Impact McKissic's solid work on passing downs makes him the top option behind Antonio Gibson, but that doesn't mean the former will dominate carries if Gibson gets injured. In the two games Gibson missed last season, McKissic averaged 12.0 carries for 59.5 yards and 5.5 catches for 37.0 yards, while Peyton Barber averaged 8.0 carries for 21.0 yards. Barber is still on the roster, along with fellow veteran backs Lamar Miller and Jonathan Williams and rookie undrafted free agent Jaret Patterson. None of the bunch is a lock for a roster spot, and it could be a wide-open competition for one or two jobs behind Gibson and McKissic. While McKissic's spot in the backfield may be secure, he isn't expected to see as much slot work this year, after Washington added Curtis Samuel, Adam Humphries and rookie third-round pick Dyami Brown in the offseason. Apart from Gibson missing significant time, it's hard to see how McKissic would even approach last year's total of 110 targets.
JUNE 30, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Enjoys career highs in 2020 McKissic finished the 2020 season with 85 carries for 365 yards and a touchdown and 80 catches for 589 yards and two TDs on 110 targets.
Impact His long gain among 165 touches went for only 29 yards, but McKissic otherwise had a career year, establishing personal bests for carries, rushing yards, receptions and receiving yards. He's under contract with Washington for one more season, though it's possible his role is scaled back if Antonio Gibson shows progress as a pass catcher throughout spring and summer. McKissic will turn 28 in August, and he's scheduled for a $1 million base salary in 2021.

Slowed by Eagles McKissic had two carries for no gain and five catches for 30 yards in Sunday's 20-14 win over the Eagles.
Impact Antonio Gibson took on more work in his second game back from a toe injury, handling 20 touches and a 59 percent snap share. McKissic still managed to tie Terry McLaurin for the team lead in targets, and Washington may need to use its scatback more in a wild-card game against the Bucs and their fearsome run defense.
