J.D. McKissic 'no slouch at all' — and much more than a third-down back The Washington RB trails only Alvin Kamara in both receiving yards and targets a game among running backs, and is third in receptions.
Scores, adds seven catches McKissic carried eight times for six yards and a touchdown while catching seven of 15 targets for an additional 43 yards during Sunday's 30-27 loss to the Lions.
Impact McKissic averaged just 0.8 yards per carry but managed to score his first touchdown of the season on a one-yard plunge in the third quarter. He mostly made his mark as a receiver and his 15 targets easily led the team, while his seven grabs tied for first. McKissic has been targeted a whopping 29 times over the last two games and will clearly maintain a large role in the offense most weeks when game flow allows, especially with the typically conservative Alex Smith at the helm. This should remain the case in what will most likely be a competitive game against the Bengals next Sunday.

Huge role in pass-catching realm McKissic caught nine of a team-high 14 targets for 65 receiving yards, adding three rushes for 17 yards during Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Giants.
Impact McKissic dominated both the RB and the team pass-catching workload, as he attracted as many targets as Washington's second and third-highest targeted players combined (Terry McLaurin at eight targets, and Logan Thomas at six). The running back's passing game role has been steady for over the past month now, as McKissic has garnered six-plus catches in four of his past five outings, averaging 42 receiving yards per game during that span. Looking ahead to Week 10, McKissic next faces a Lions defense that ranks seventh worst in the NFL with 413 receiving yards allowed to opposing RBs on the season.

Impact McKissic was quite effective as a ball carrier, averaging 7.0 yards per carry, but he didn't make his usual impact as a pass catcher with his team playing from ahead throughout the game. He could have more passes thrown his way next Sunday against the Giants but seems unlikely to take over as the lead back anytime soon after Antonio Gibson erupted for 128 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries in this one. As such, McKissic should be left on the bench in the majority of fantasy formats.

The familiar game script -- it was the team's fourth straight loss by 14 or more points -- allowed McKissic to stay heavily involved, but it was still Antonio Gibson who dominated work on the ground with 11 carries for 27 yards. A Week 6 matchup with the Giants could produce a closer contest, which likely would shift more of the workload toward Gibson but also would be a positive development for the Washington offense as a whole.
