Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde Injury Update Boosts Travis Homer Fantasy Outlook in Week 8

Won't play Week 8
Hyde (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's game versus the 49ers.
Impact
Hyde emerged from last Sunday's loss at Arizona with a tight hamstring, which kept him off the practice field this week. When the Seahawks listed him as doubtful to play Sunday, there wasn't much optimism about his ability to change the team's mind, and he indeed will don street clothes. Joining Hyde on the inactive list is Chris Carson (foot), meaning Travis Homer (knee) and DeeJay Dallas will be the basis of Seattle's ground game Week 8.

Doubtful for Week 8
Hyde (hamstring) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against San Francisco, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle reports.
Impact
The designation doesn't come as too much of a surprise after coach Pete Carroll sounded pessimistic about Hyde's status during a Friday radio appearance. Fellow running backs Chris Carson (foot) and Travis Homer (knee) are listed as questionable, while DeeJay Dallas is the one tailback on the roster without an injury concern.

Could miss Sunday's game
Coach Pete Carroll said Hyde's hamstring injury may prevent him from playing in Sunday's game against the 49ers, Brandon Gustafson of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
Impact
Carroll labeled both Hyde and Chris Carson (foot) as game-time decisions, but only Hyde got the disclaimer. Travis Homer (knee) is expected to play, though DeeJay Dallas has been the only running back participating in practice so far this week. The Friday injury report should provide more information on the Seahawks' confusing backfield situation for Week 8.

Still not practicing
Hyde (hamstring) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Hyde emerged from Sunday's loss at Arizona with a hamstring injury, and while he hasn't practiced this week, coach Pete Carroll doesn't consider the issue to be a major one, per Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle. Among the Seahawks' top three running backs, Hyde may actually be the healthiest of the group, with Chris Carson tending to a mid-foot sprain and Travis Homer dealing with a knee contusion.. Neither Carson nor Homer have practiced this week, though, so Seattle could be forced to roll with rookie fourth-rounder DeeJay Dallas on Sunday versus the 49ers.

Injury downplayed
Coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that Hyde's hamstring injury is "not major," Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Carroll used the term "tightness" when describing Hyde's injury earlier in the week, and he reiterated Wednesday that this isn't a serious issue. That prognosis should be taken with a grain of salt, as Carroll often is overly optimistic about his players' injury statuses, and he's talking about a 30-year old running back with a soft-tissue injury. However, Hyde carries a strong upside if he's able to play because Chris Carson (foot) is very questionable ahead of Sunday's game against the 49ers, and Travis Homer (knee) was held out of practice Wednesday. We'll know more as the practice week progresses, but at this point, DeeJay Dallas is the only Seahawks running back that's fully healthy heading into Week 8.

Dealing with hamstring injury
Hyde suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday's 37-34 loss to the Cardinals, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Impact
Hyde took over as Seattle's lead back after Chris Carson sprained his foot in the second quarter, but coach Pete Carroll revealed Monday that Hyde picked up an injury as well. The Seahawks' top three running backs are now battling injuries after Travis Homer suffered a knee contusion during the divisional tilt, leaving rookie DeeJay Dallas as the only healthy remaining back. Homer's status is unclear, Carson is week-to-week, and Hyde's status isn't favorable because of the soft-tissue nature of his injury. We'll have a better idea of the trio's respective statuses once practices start up Wednesday. If they're all ruled out for Sunday's game versus the 49ers, Dallas likely would lead the backfield because Rashaad Penny (knee) isn't expected to be ready in time. Patrick Carr is on the practice squad and may be an option, and Marshawn Lynch's name could be floated under these circumstances as well.

Scores in return to action
Hyde rushed 15 times for 68 yards and a touchdown and added three receptions for eight yards in Sunday's 37-34 overtime loss to the Cardinals.
Impact
Chris Carson suffered a foot injury in the second quarter and didn't return, opening the door for Hyde to take over as the lead back for the rest of regulation and overtime. The 30-year-old running back quickly made the most of the opportunity, as he scored his second touchdown of the season on an impressive 24-yard scamper in which he tip-toed the sidelines to put the Seahawks up two scores with 4:04 remaining in the first half. Since Carson never returned to the game, it's worth monitoring his practice status this week, as Hyde would operate as the de facto No. 1 running back as long as Carson is out, while Travis Homer would work in as the third-down back.
