GAME LOG

INJURIES

Out again Brate (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Rams, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
Impact Brate has missed four of the past five games, first suffering a concussion and now sitting out three in a row with a neck injury. He did return to limited practice participation this week and thus could make it back for a Week 10 matchup with the Seahawks in Munich. Rookie Cade Otton has topped 80 percent snap share in each game Brate has missed this year, putting up receiving lines of 6-43-0 (seven targets), 4-64-0 (five targets) and 2-15-0 (five targets).

Another limited practice Brate (neck) was limited at practice Thursday.
Impact Stringing together back-to-back capped sessions generally would be a good sign for a player that's been sidelined for two games. However, Brate suffered a concussion and a neck injury in the span of three contests from Weeks 4 through 6, so the Buccaneers likely will continue to take a cautious approach with their No. 1 tight end. Friday's practice report may provide a glimpse into the team's plans for Brate in advance of Sunday's game against the Rams.

Limited in return to practice Brate (neck) practiced on a limited basis Wednesday.
Impact Brate is taking part in his first noticeable on-field work since he suffered a neck injury Week 6 at Pittsburgh. The Buccaneers likely are exercising the utmost caution with the tight end after he sustained a concussion and the aforementioned health concern in the span of three games. In any case, with some activity under his belt this week, Brate's status bears watching as the week continues.

Brady vs. Rodgers: Who has a more legitimate excuse for team's struggles?
Ruled out for TNF Coach Todd Bowles said Wednesday that Brate (neck) is ruled out for Thursday's game against the Ravens, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Impact Brate will miss his second straight game as he continues working his way back from a neck injury. In his stead, the Buccaneers will rely on Cade Otton, Kyle Rudolph and perhaps Ko Kieft (ankle) to hold down the fort at tight end versus Baltimore.

Doesn't practice Tuesday Brate (neck) didn't participate in Tuesday's walkthrough, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Impact After sitting out Week 5 due to a concussion, Brate returned to action Week 6, only to suffer a neck injury in that contest. There's no telling when the tight end will gain clearance to return to action, but he seems in danger of logging a third DNP in four games. If he's unable to play Thursday versus the Ravens, Brate will yield reps at the position to Cade Otton, Kyle Rudolph and potentially Ko Kieft (ankle), the latter of whom was listed as limited on Tuesday's practice report after logging no activity Monday.
OCTOBER 25, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
DNP on Monday Brate (neck) was listed as a non-participant after Monday's walkthrough, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
Impact Between Weeks 4 and 6, Brate sustained a concussion and neck injury, respectively, sitting out Weeks 5 and 7 as a result. With no evidence yet of on-field activity, he may be in danger of sitting out Thursday against the Ravens as well. The next two days of prep could be the determining factor of whether another DNP is imminent. Fellow tight end Ko Kieft (ankle) also sat out Monday, so Cade Otton and Kyle Rudolph are the only healthy Bucs at the position on the active roster.

Ruled out for Sunday Brate (neck) will not play Sunday against the Panthers, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Impact Brate suffered a concussion and then a neck injury within a span of three weeks, and he's in danger of missing time beyond Sunday with the Bucs facing the Ravens on Thursday in Week 8. Rookie TE Cade Otton played 94 percent of snaps when Brate was out two weeks ago, catching six of seven targets for 43 yards in a win over Atlanta. The Bucs' other options at tight end are fellow rookie Ko Kieft and 32-year-old Kyle Rudolph.
OCTOBER 21, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
No practice Thursday Brate (neck) did not practice Thursday.
Impact If Brate is unable to play against Carolina on Sunday then it might allow rookie Cade Otton to shed some of his blocking tasks and claim the routes and targets that would normally go to Brate.
OCTOBER 20, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Not at practice Brate (neck) isn't practicing Wednesday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact X-rays on Brate's neck came back negative Monday, but he'll be in danger of missing time after suffering a scary-looking injury in Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh. The Buccaneers turned to Cade Otton in an every-down role after Brate's departure, much like in Week 5 when the rookie drew 94 percent of snaps and seven targets with Brate in the concussion protocol. The Bucs have two games coming up in short order, with Sunday's trip to Carolina followed by a Thursday home game against the Ravens in Week 8.

Brady: Struggling Bucs need to look in mirror, play better

X-rays negative Brate (neck) received negative X-ray results Monday, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Brate was evaluated at a Pittsburgh hospital after exiting Sunday's loss to the Steelers, and it's good news that tests for a broken neck came back negative. He was able to travel back to Tampa Bay with the team Sunday night, but it's too early to speculate about Brate's timetable for a return to the field. In the meantime, the Buccaneers will lean on Cade Otton, Ko Kieft and Kyle Rudolph at tight end.

Diagnosed with neck injury Brate, who left Sunday's 20-18 loss to the Steelers early, will join the Buccaneers as they travel back to Tampa Bay after he was evaluated for a neck injury at a Pittsburgh hospit...
Impact Two weeks removed from suffering a concussion and completing the ensuing protocol for head injuries, Brate had a scare Sunday, when he endured a big hit from Steelers defenders and immediately grabbed at his head. He was placed on a backboard and carted off the field, and the Bucs soon ruled him out while stating he had movement in all of his extremities. It appears Brate has avoided another concussion, but the team likely will exercise extreme caution with its starting tight end until he's healthy enough to play again. Cade Otton, Ko Kieft and Kyle Rudolph are the other tight ends on the active roster.

May be back in concussion protocol Brate suffered an apparent head injury during Sunday's game at Pittsburgh, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact Brate suffered a concussion during the Buccaneers' Week 4 loss to the Chiefs and didn't play Week 5. He was able to clear the protocol for head injuries ahead of this contest, but it appears he'll soon have to pass all five phases again before he can get back on the field. Sunday's situation was particularly scary, as he clutched at his helmet after taking a big hit while hauling in a catch over the middle late in the third quarter. Brate was placed on a board and carted off the field, but fortunately for the tight end, he seemed to have movement in his extremities, per Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site. Tampa Bay's healthy and available tight ends Sunday are Cade Otton and Ko Kieft.
OCTOBER 16, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Another full practice Brate (concussion) was a full practice participant Thursday.
Impact The Buccaneers have yet to reveal whether or not Brate has cleared the concussion protocol, but back-to-back sessions with all activity indicate he's on the precipice of doing so, if he hasn't. His status could receive clarity upon the release of Friday's practice report, but he has two full days to pass the fifth and final phase of the protocol and become available to the offense Sunday in Pittsburgh.
OCTOBER 13, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Turns in full practice Wednesday Brate (concussion) practiced fully Wednesday.
Impact Brate left the Buccaneers' Week 4 loss to the Chiefs with a concussion and didn't make any noticeable progress through the protocol for head injuries until last Friday, when he was a limited practice participant. Still, he wasn't cleared to play this past Sunday against the Falcons. According to Jenna Laine of ESPN.com, Brate is feeling better as of Wednesday, but even though he progressed enough to be listed as a full participant to begin Week 6 prep, it's unknown if he's passed through all five phases of the protocol.
