Impact Powell nearly doubled his season total in snaps in Sunday's victory, taking the field for 25 offensive snaps and turning that into a total of seven touches for 40 yards. In the fourth quarter, Powell had a clutch 16-yard catch to set up a Darrell Henderson rushing touchdown to ice the game for the Rams. The expanded usage for the speedy return man may be short lived, as the Rams go on bye in Week 7, and Van Jefferson (knee) is eligible to return in Week 8.

Impact For the second straight week, Powell found himself without a target in the passing game, despite seeing the field for a season-high 11 offensive snaps. It also was a season low in return yards for the speedy return man, and Powell's lone touch on offense was stuffed after just one yard. Despite the lack of stats, the increase in playing time could yield fruit in a Week 6 tilt with a struggling Panthers squad.

Impact It was the first game of the season in which Powell wasn't targeted in the passing game, a slight surprise as Tutu Atwell was inactive for the game, leaving Powell as the team's field-stretching speedster. Powell still managed to record a single touch out of his six offensive snaps with an 11-yard scamper in the second quarter, and he'll look to bounce back in a Week 5 tilt against the Cowboys.

Impact The glaring negative rushing yardage came late in the game, as the Rams elected to take an intentional safety on fourth down with just 13 seconds remaining, rather than punt, and trusted Powell as the man to handle the job. Other than the safety, Powell was only on the field for five other offensive snaps, and seems relegated to kick returning duty with Van Jefferson (knee) likely to return soon.

Injures knee, awaiting results Rams head coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that Powell banged his knee during practice and the team is awaiting results, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.

Impact Rodrique inferred that McVay didn't appear overly concerned about Powell's injury, so at the moment, it appears like a minor issue. McVay also mentioned that Powell wouldn't have played in the preseason opener anyways, suggesting that the return-specialist is likely a lock for the initial 53-man roster. Last year, Powell totaled 341 return yards and one score across six regular-season games, but the undrafted wideout out of Florida could be in store for more receiving work during his second season in Los Angeles, especially if Van Jefferson (knee) remains sidelined heading into the regular season.

Impact Powell's usage in 2021 was almost exclusively as a return specialist, with just three offensive snaps to his credit all season, but he did manage to produce 341 return yards and a touchdown in just six regular-season games. Powell does have receiving experience, with 23 receptions for 198 yards and two TDs in his previous two years in the league, and with Van Jefferson potentially missing time with a knee injury, the opportunity is there for Powell to step in and produce in the slot.
