Impact The 23-year-old Powell will prepare to make his first regular-season appearance in over 20 months after riding out 2019 as a member of the Falcons' practice squad. When last active on special teams with Detroit in 2018, Powell picked up eight yards on two punt return attempts as well as 43 kick return yards on two additional returns (across six total games played). Powell beat out undrafted rookie Chris Rowland for this opportunity after the Falcons parted ways with 2019 return specialist Kenjon Barner over the offseason.

Back at it again Powell returned to practice Monday after missing time last week with an undisclosed injury, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Coach Dan Quinn said that Powell is back at "full speed," which is great news considering his anticipated role for Atlanta this season. The former Florida Gator continues to be a front-runner to serve as the Falcons' primary returner this season, but he will have to hold off undrafted rookie Chris Rowland to secure the role. He last played an NFL game Week 17 of 2018 as a member of the Lions, providing six catches for 103 yards during a rout of the Packers in a showdown of six-win teams. More recently, Powell spent time as a member of the Falcons' practice squad in 2019.

Out for Thursday's practice Powell (undisclosed) was a non-participant during Thursday's practice session, Jason Butt of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Impact The former Lion is in competition with rookie Chris Rowland for the role of Falcons return man, but his bid for that spot has been paused by a minor injury suffered during Wednesday's practice. Coach Dan Quinn described the issue as being nothing of great concern, so the hope is that Powell can return to the field in short order and resume his push for a roster spot. Though Atlanta remains deep at his offensive position of wide receiver, Powell is very much in the mix to reserve a roster slot by way of his returning abilities.
