Officially works out for Rams again Donald had another official workout with the Rams today, per the NFL's transaction wire.

Impact Donald logged his first official workout this offseason with the Rams on Aug. 5, as he's been mulling coming out of retirement this offseason. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year appears to be fully healthy since he's now worked out twice this offseason, but whether he officially unretires to play alongside Myles Garrett on the Rams' defensive line remains to be seen. Donald recorded 25 tackles, including 8.0 sacks, while playing 16 regular-season games during his final campaign in 2023.

Impact The three-time Defensive Player of the Year winner's return would create a defensive line reminiscent of the 2021 Rams Super Bowl-winning roster. Donald would be trading out legendary pass rusher Von Miller for reigning Defensive Player of the Year and single-season sack record holder Myles Garrett. It remains likely that if Donald were to rejoin the Rams, it would be at some point during the regular season as the team gears up for a playoff run.

Return to NFL is real possibility Ian Rapoport of NFL Network characterized it Thursday as a "real possibility" that Donald comes out of retirement to play for the Rams this season.

Impact According to Rapoport, Donald has been working out at the Rams' facility in an effort to get into football shape, which it remains to be seen if the 35-year-old can get to that point where he'll feel comfortable pausing his retirement and stepping back onto the field in a game situation. There is no timetable for Donald to make a decision, and neither the Rams nor Donald are setting any hard and fast deadlines. Rapoport adds that this could go deep into training camp and even into the regular season.

Impact According to Michael J. Babcock of TMZ Sports, Donald "went through several drills" and appeared "gassed" after a workout that lasted about an hour. While the currently retired defensive lineman could have just been getting in some conditioning work at his former club's facility, the workout takes on added intrigue after Donald said in early June that he's "thinking" of coming out of retirement. To this point, Donald hasn't confirmed either way if he's planning to play next year, so visions of him lining up alongside new Rams edge rusher Myles Garrett remain speculative for now.

Considering return to NFL? Donald told Pat McAfee of The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday that the Rams' acquisition of Myles Garrett on Monday "for sure got [him] thinking" of coming out of retirement.

Impact Donald, of course, walked away from the sport at the top of his game following the 2023 season after going to 10 straight Pro Bowls to begin his career. A first-team All-Pro eight times and three-time Defensive Player of the Year, Donald told McAfee he's "gotta see if that fire can light back up" at 35 years old before making any decisions on returning to the NFL. The Rams, of course, would be the team Donald would join if he did decide to lace the cleats back up. The Super Bowl is again in Los Angeles this upcoming season, and the Rams are in win-now mode with MVP Matthew Stafford at the controls. If Donald were to come out of retirement, this would be the situation.
