Impact Armstrong was called on to finish the fifth inning, but he ended up giving up a grand slam to Giancarlo Stanton before striking out Gleyber Torres. The 30-year-old Armstrong was away from the Orioles at the start of the season to attend the birth of his child. The right-hander is expected to join Cesar Valdez and Tanner Scott in a closer committee to begin 2021, but Armstrong will need to show better than he did Monday to be trusted with a late-inning role.

Impact Armstrong will be away from the Orioles for several days following the birth of his child. Following his brief absence, the right-hander is a candidate for save chances this year, but Tanner Scott and Cesar Valdez are the top options to close out games while Armstrong is unavailable. Armstrong performed well during the abbreviated 2020 campaign, as he posted a 1.80 ERA and 0.80 WHIP in 15 innings during 14 relief appearances.

Heading to injured list The Orioles announced Saturday that they are putting Armstrong on the 10-day injured list with back soreness, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

Impact Armstrong hasn't pitched since last Saturday, when he gave up a run on two hits and a walk in just one-third of an inning against Boston. He will be eligible to return Sept. 5 as the transaction is retroactive to Aug. 26. The Orioles called up Evan Phillips in a corresponding move.
