Cole Young - Knocks in winning run in debut
Young went 1-for-4 with a walk and one RBI in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Twins.
Impact
Young's debut was relatively unimpressive until his first major-league hit in the ninth inning. However, it was his fielder's choice in the 11th that drove in the winning run for the Mariners. Prior to his call-up Saturday, he slashed .277/.392/.461 with five home runs, 26 RBI, 39 runs scored, 13 doubles, five triples and four stolen bases over 54 games at Triple-A Tacoma. He'll be in competition for time at second base during his stay in the majors, where he offers some upside with a well-rounded profile that highlights his contact and plate discipline as well as modest speed.

Bryce Miller - Gives up three runs in return
Miller allowed three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out two over four innings in a no-decision Saturday versus the Twins.
Impact
Miller missed nearly three weeks due to right elbow inflammation, and he returned without a rehab assignment. That likely led to a pitch count, as he was pulled after 71 pitches (45 strikes), though he also struggled a bit, giving up all three runs in the second inning. Miller is now at a 5.36 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 37:22 K:BB through 43.2 innings over nine starts this season. The 26-year-old is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Angels.

Trent Thornton - Starts rehab assignment
Thornton (abdomen) started a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, MLB.com reports.
Impact
Thornton, who is recovering from appendicitis, tossed 16 pitches and fanned two in a scoreless inning Friday. The 31-year-old veteran right-hander has been on the injured list since May 9, but he's now tracking toward a return to Seattle's bullpen sometime around the first or second week of June. Thornton has a 5.87 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 11:4 K:BB over 15.1 innings this season, and he'll likely work as a middle reliever once he rejoins the Mariners.

Will Klein - DFA'd by Tridents
The Mariners designated Klein for assignment Saturday.
Impact
The move makes room on the 40-man roster to allow the Mariners to select Cole Young's contract from Triple-A Tacoma. Klein has spent the entire season in Triple-A and has struggled with a 7.40 ERA, 2.03 WHIP, three saves and a 32:18 K:BB across 20.2 innings.

Casey Legumina - Sent down to Triple-A
The Mariners optioned Legumina to Triple-A Tacoma following Friday's game against the Twins.
Impact
Legumina allowed just five runs (three earned) over his first 18 major-league outings with the Mariners. However, he has yielded eight runs (seven earned) over his last two appearances out of the bullpen, which has inflated his ERA and WHIP to 4.58 and 1.53, respectively, across 19.2 innings. The move makes room on the 26-man roster for Bryce Miller (elbow), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Saturday.

Leonardo Rivas - Optioned to Triple-A
The Mariners optioned Rivas to Triple-A Tacoma following Friday's game against the Twins.
Impact
The move makes room on the 26-man roster for Cole Young, whose contract was selected by the Mariners from Tacoma. Rivas has served in a utility role for Seattle after being recalled by the big club in early April, and he is slashing .283/.411/.300 with four steals and four RBI in 73 major-league plate appearances this season. Rivas should receive a call back up to the majors this season should the Mariners need infield depth.
