Takes loss despite quality start
Sandoval (0-2) allowed three earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out 10 across six innings, taking the loss Sunday to the Mariners.
Impact
Sandoval surrendered a home run by Donovan Walton to lead off the third inning. Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com, he induced 32 swinging strikes in the contest -- the most by any Angels pitcher in a single game since the pitch-tracking era began in 2008. Prior to his ten strikeout performance, Sandoval totaled four punchouts only twice. The 24-year-old has a 3.95 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP with 27 strikeouts in 27.1 innings. He has posted a quality start in his last three outings. The Angels have rocked a six-man rotation at times and Sandoval has been in and out of the rotation.

Confirmed as Sunday's starter
Sandoval is listed as the Angels' starting pitcher for Sunday's game against the Mariners, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Impact
All signs were pointing toward Sandoval taking the ball Sunday, with manager Joe Maddon announcing earlier in the week that he would replace Jose Quintana (shoulder) in the rotation for the time being. Now he's officially slated to take the hill for the series finale. The southpaw has made six major-league appearances (three starts) this season, posting a 3.80 ERA to go along with a 17:10 K:BB across 21.1 innings.

Impact
Sandoval has previously made three starts for Los Angeles this season, including one last Thursday against Oakland. The young southpaw turned in the best outings of his young career versus the Athletics, tossing five shutout innings while allowing seven baserunners and striking out four. The Angels haven't outlined their full pitching schedule for the upcoming week, but Sandoval will presumably make his next start during the Angels' four-game series versus Seattle over the weekend.

Throws five shutout innings
Sandoval allowed five hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five shutout innings in Thursday's loss to Oakland. He did not factor in the decision.
Impact
Sandoval was called upon for a spot start after Shohei Ohtani experienced transportation issues that would have affected his usual game-day routine. The 24-year-old Sandoval performed excellently on short notice, but Oakland's Chris Bassitt was better with a two-hit shutout Thursday. Through six games (three starts), Sandoval has a 3.80 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 17:10 K:BB across 21.1 innings. He'll likely fill a multi-inning relief role going forward.

New Thursday starter
Sandoval will replace Shohei Ohtani as the starting pitcher for Thursday's game against the Athletics, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Registerreports.
Impact
Ohtani was scratched from the start a little over an hour before the game was set to begin. The decision is reportedly not injury related, so this may turn out to be only a spot start for Sandoval. Through 16.1 innings this season, he has posted a 4.96 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with a 13:8 K:BB.

Allows two runs in five innings
Sandoval (0-1) went five innings in Saturday's 6-2 loss to Oakland, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Impact
Both of Sandoval's runs allowed came at the expense of Mark Canha, but otherwise the righty performed admirably. The five innings was his longest outing of the season and he's allowed two runs or less in four of five outings although a 4.96 ERA shows there's room for growth.

Starting vs. Oakland
Sandoval is starting Saturday's game against the Athletics.
Impact
The 24-year-old southpaw is a starter by trade, but he has also worked out of the bullpen at times for the Angels over the last three seasons. Through 63.2 career innings as a big-league starter, Sandoval has a 5.80 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and a 54:29 K:BB - his 4.18 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 23.2 innings as a reliever are more promising. The Angels have been working with a six-man rotation all season, and Sandoval represents a seventh starting option, so it is unclear if this outing will just buy everyone else some extra rest or if he has a shot at displacing someone else in the rotation.

Goes four innings in no-decision
Sandoval allowed two runs on six hits and a walk over four innings in Monday's win over Cleveland. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision.
Impact
Sandoval got off to a rough start, serving up a solo homer to Cesar Hernandez on the first pitch of the game. He later coughed up an RBI single to Jose Ramirez in the third. The 6-foot-3 southpaw is sporting a 5.56 ERA across 11.1 frames this season. Sandoval could move back to the bullpen before he gets another chance at starting.
