INJURIES

Yields two homers in no-decision Sandoval allowed two runs on five hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out seven over five innings in a no-decision versus the Athletics on Wednesday.
Impact Sandoval gave up solo home runs to Jonah Heim and Lawrence Butler. This was the second time in four starts Sandoval has gotten to the five-inning mark as he continues to build up after missing more than two years due to elbow and other arm-related injuries. The southpaw has posted a 3.32 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB through 19 innings so far this season. Sandoval is projected to make his next start at home versus the White Sox.

Holds Toronto scoreless Friday Sandoval did not factor into the decision in Friday's 6-4 win over the Blue Jays, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out three over 4.2 scoreless innings.
Impact Sandoval threw just 51 of 84 pitches for strikes with six whiffs but managed to keep the Blue Jays in check, departing with two outs and two men on in the fifth inning before Tyron Guerrero finished the frame. While the 29-year-old Sandoval has not pitched beyond the fifth in any of his three outings with the Red Sox, he's yielded just five earned runs while increasing his pitch count each time out. He'll take a 3.21 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB across 14 innings into a road matchup with the Athletics next week.

Goes five innings in no-decision Sandoval didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Rays, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and a walk across five innings. He struck out five.
Impact Sandoval gave up a pair of runs in the second inning before the Rays scored another three in the fourth, highlighted by a Victor Mesa homer. Overall, it was a step back for Sandoval after he allowed just one run across 4.1 innings in his Red Sox debut prior to the All-Star break. Should Sandoval get another start, he'd currently line up to face the Blue Jays at home.
JULY 19 • ROTOWIRE
Awarded another start Sandoval will start Saturday's game against the Rays in Boston.
Impact Sandoval will receive a second turn through the rotation after pitching well in his return from the 60-day injured list and in his Red Sox debut July 9, when he struck out five while allowing one earned run on five hits and one walk across 4.1 innings in a no-decision versus the White Sox. The veteran southpaw may need another strong showing against the Rays to ensure he sticks in the rotation on a longer-term basis, as the Red Sox may not have a spot available for him once both Ranger Suarez (groin) and Connelly Early (elbow) return from the injured list.

JULY 9 • SPORTINGNEWS.COM
Encouraging results in season debut Sandoval took a no-decision Thursday against the White Sox, allowing one run on five hits and one walk in 4.1 innings. He struck out five.
Impact Making his season debut for the Red Sox, Sandoval fared well in what also was his first big-league appearance since 2024 following a lengthy recovery from internal brace surgery and several setbacks. The 29-year-old southpaw threw 41 of his 65 pitches for strikes, but he couldn't quite get through the fifth inning as his control began to wane, tossing a wild pitch during the frame. Connelly Early (elbow) and Ranger Suarez (groin) could both be back shortly after the All-Star break, which would likely force Sandoval into a bullpen role.

Slated to start Thursday Sandoval (biceps) is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the White Sox in Chicago, Sean McAdam of MassLive.com reports.
Impact The Red Sox brought Sandoval back from the 60-day injured list Monday, but he'll end up waiting for a few days before making his first big-league appearance since June 21, 2024, after enduring a lengthy recovery from internal brace surgery and multiple arm-related setbacks. Sandoval was sharp over the course of his six-start minor-league rehab assignment, generating a 1.96 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 18:6 K:BB across 18.1 innings between four outings with Triple-A Worcester and two with Double-A Portland. The southpaw built up to 68 pitches in his final rehab start over the weekend, so he could have a light workload restriction in place while he slots into the spot in the Boston rotation that previously belonged to Connelly Early (elbow), who was moved to the IL last week.

JULY 7 • SPORTINGNEWS.COM
Reinstated from 60-day IL The Red Sox reinstated Sandoval (biceps) from the 60-day injured list Monday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.
Impact Sandoval is finally ready to see major-league action for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery in June of 2024 while working through other injuries that cropped up during his recovery. He is expected to enter the Red Sox's rotation later this week -- either Thursday against the White Sox or Friday against the Mets -- and his return is a welcome for Boston, one given that Connelly Early (elbow) is on the 15-day injured list and with Ranger Suarez dealing with a groin injury that he picked up during Sunday's start against the Angels. Sandoval ran his pitch count up to 68 in his last rehab start with Double-A Portland on Saturday, and he'll likely have his workload limited through his few turns in the rotation.
JULY 6 • ROTOWIRE
Makes final rehab start Sandoval (biceps) allowed one hit and one walk while striking out seven over five scoreless innings for Double-A Portland on Saturday.
Impact Sandoval got up to 68 pitches and, per MLB.com, the Red Sox hope he'll join the team's rotation for the final series before the All-Star break. The left-hander is expected to fill-in for injured starter Connelly Early (elbow).

Could join Boston's rotation Sandoval (biceps) is an option to replace Connelly Early (elbow) in Boston's rotation, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Impact Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy mentioned Sandoval or Brayan Bello as potential fill-ins for the Early. Sandoval, whose rehab assignment ends Saturday, will make one more rehab start at Double-A Portland this weekend, when he's scheduled to throw 70 pitches. That will allow him to be stretched out enough to make a start should the Red Sox call on him. With days off next week between series, Boston won't need a fifth starter until July 11.

JUNE 29 • SI.COM
Hits four innings in rehab start Sandoval (biceps) struck out three and allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk across four innings Sunday in his rehab start with Triple-A Worcester.
Impact Sandoval built up to 60 pitches (40 strikes) in Sunday's appearance, his fifth minor-league start since he resumed a rehab assignment June 5. He generated five whiffs in the outing and averaged 92.8 mph with his four-seam fastball, down one mph from his average with the Angels during the 2024 season before he underwent internal brace surgery that June. The 29-year-old southpaw is now well removed from the elbow procedure, but a bout with biceps soreness during his rehab assignment in April continued to delay his Red Sox debut. Sandoval's current 30-day rehab window will come to an end Saturday, so he'll likely make one more start with either Worcester or Double-A Portland before coming off the 60-day injured list. With Jake Bennett having excelled as the Red Sox's No. 5 starter over the past few weeks, Sandoval might have to settle for a multi-inning relief role once he gets activated.

Impact Sandoval, who has yet to make his season debut with Boston in 2026, completed another rehab outing Wednesday. The left-hander made his longest start through his rehab process thus far after pitching three efficient innings. The 29-year-old, who has not pitched at any level since 2024, originally had internal brace surgery on his elbow and is now experiencing left biceps discomfort.

Next rehab start scheduled Sandoval (biceps) will make a second rehab start for Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, MLB.com reports.
Impact Sandoval is on a slow buildup to a starter's workload. During his first rehab outing last Friday, the left-hander threw 16 pitches over 1.1 innings.

Restarts rehab Sandoval (biceps) walked one over 1.1 innings for Triple-A Worcester on Friday.
Impact Sandoval had been scheduled to throw one inning, but he went back out after cruising through his first inning, per Triple-A Worcester's official site. The left-hander restarted a rehab assignment that was scrapped in April. At that time, he was rehabbing from an internal brace procedure on his elbow but was set back by the biceps.
