A's place Jacob Wilson on 10-day IL with a dislocated left shoulder

Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson was placed on the 10-day injured list because of a dislocated left shoulder
AUGUST 21 • Associated Press
Officially done for 2026 The Athletics transferred Kurtz (thumb) to the 60-day injured list Friday.
Impact Manager Mark Kotsay indicated Aug. 11 that Kurtz may be done for the season after receiving a PRP injection for his thumb strain, and the move to the 60-day IL guarantees the first baseman is done for 2026 since the A's are unofficially out of the playoff hunt, and he won't be eligible to be reinstated until after the end of the regular season. The 23-year-old was unable to fully replicate the 36 homers and 1.002 OPS he posted as a rookie last year, but he was still plenty productive in 2026 with 21 home runs, seven steals, 69 RBI, 62 runs and a .256/.396/.483 slash line in 99 games.

A's slugger Nick Kurtz could miss the rest of the season with a thumb injury

Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz may be in danger of missing the rest of the season because of his injured right thumb
AUGUST 12 • Associated Press
May not return this season Kurtz (thumb) is set to spend three more weeks in a brace after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection last Tuesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact Kurtz received the injection when he initially landed on the injured list last week with a strained right thumb. He's scheduled to shed his brace at the beginning of September, but with the 47-72 A's well out of the race for a postseason berth, the team likely won't be in much of a hurry to bring him back. If the Athletics opt to shut Kurtz down for the year, Jeff McNeil and Tommy White figure to split reps at first base for the rest of the season.

AUGUST 4 • Associated Press
Out with thumb strain The Athletics placed Kurtz on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to Aug. 1, due to a strained right thumb.
Impact Kurtz visited a hand specialist Monday after sitting out Saturday's and Sunday's contest due to the thumb injury, and he'll be sidelined for at least another week after being diagnosed with an acute on chronic volar plate tear of the MCP joint, per Martin Gallegos of MLB.com. The 23-year-old is receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection Tuesday and is without an official timeline for his return.

A's slugger Nick Kurtz will see a specialist about his injured right thumb

Athletics slugger Nick Kurtz will see a hand specialist in Los Angeles on Monday about his injured right thumb and could be headed to the injured list

Visiting hand specialist Kurtz, who is out of the lineup Sunday against the Tigers, is scheduled to visit a hand specialist Monday in Los Angeles, after which the A's are expected to make a roster decision...
Impact After being hit by a pitch Wednesday, the 23-year-old was back in the lineup for the next two games but now finds himself on the bench Sunday for a second straight contest. Kurtz underwent an MRI and X-rays before initially rejoining the starting nine Thursday, with manager Mark Kotsay saying that the X-ray results were "kind of unclear." The fact Kurtz was cleared to play indicated it was a minor injury, but there's apparently some lingering issues that warrant further evaluation.

Sitting again Sunday Kurtz (forearm) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.
Impact It's the second consecutive absence for Kurtz, whose forearm is presumably still bothering him after being hit by a pitch Wednesday. The 23-year-old underwent X-rays and an MRI before returning to the lineup Thursday and Friday, but he's apparently still not 100 percent. Monday's team off day will provide him three straight days of rest heading into Tuesday's series opener in Cincinnati.

Today's Best MLB Home Run Prop Bets: Top 5 Predictions ft. Nick Kurtz, Shohei Ohtani | August 2, 2026 Home run opportunities are plentiful across Sunday's MLB schedule as several of the league's top sluggers draw favorable matchups. As such, the prop market offers plenty of value.
AUGUST 2 • SPORTSKEEDA.COM
Not starting Saturday Kurtz isn't in the Athletics' starting lineup Saturday versus Detroit.
Impact Kurtz was hit in the forearm by a pitch Wednesday and underwent an MRI, but he was back in the lineup both Thursday and Friday. At this point, it's unclear if his exit from the starting nine Saturday is related to that issue or if he's simply getting a day off. It's worth noting that the star first baseman slumped for most of July, slashing a meager .028/.125/.111 with just one home run and 20 strikeouts over his final 12 games of the month. Jonah Heim is starting at first base in Kurtz's stead Saturday.

In Thursday's lineup Kurtz (forearm) will start at first base and bat leadoff Thursday against the Red Sox.
Impact Kurtz made an early exit from Wednesday's contest after taking a pitch off his forearm, but he's been cleared to return to the starting nine after MRI results came back clean Thursday. The 23-year-old slugger owns an .890 OPS through 426 plate appearances on the season, but he's gone just 1-for-12 with a three-run homer and seven strikeouts since returning from the injured list Saturday.

Will undergo MRI on Thursday Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said Wednesday that Kurtz will undergo an MRI on Thursday and X-rays on his left forearm were "kind of unclear," Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact Kurtz was forced to depart Wednesday's contest versus the Red Sox after being struck on the forearm by a Patrick Sandoval pitch. The Athletics should offer an update on the star first baseman's status later Thursday. Kurtz just returned from the injured list less than a week ago after missing time with a thumb injury.

Athletics' Nick Kurtz leaves game vs. Red Sox with bruised left forearm after HBP, getting MRI

Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz left Wednesday night’s game against the Boston Red Sox with a bruised left forearm after being hit by a pitch
JULY 30 • Associated Press
Exits after HBP Kurtz was removed from Wednesday's game against the Red Sox after getting hit on the hand by a pitch, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact Kurtz initially remained in the game after taking a 95-mph sinker off his left hand in the first inning, but he was replaced in the field at the start of the second frame. He'll presumably be evaluated for a fracture, and the A's could provide more information on his status relatively soon.
