Bruce Zimmermann - Tapped for Tuesday's start Zimmermann will start Tuesday's game against the Padres, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact Zimmermann was promoted to the major leagues Saturday with the expectation that it would be a brief stint, but he'll remain with the Brewers a bit longer after Brandon Woodruff (lat) ended up on the 15-day injured list. Zimmermann has fared well in the minors over his last four outings, cruising to a 1.17 ERA and 0.87 WHIP with 22 strikeouts over 23.0 innings, but he'll face a tough San Diego lineup in his first big-league action of 2025.

Christian Yelich - Stepping into leadoff role Yelich is batting leadoff and serving as the designated hitter Monday night against the Padres, Sophia Minnaert of FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin reports.
Impact This marks the first time this season that Yelich will get a look in the leadoff spot, resulting in Sal Frelick being bumped down to the No. 5 spot in the order. Yelich hasn't had a great month of September at the plate thus far, batting .231 with two home runs, eight RBI, one stolen base and six runs scored in 14 matchups.
SEPTEMBER 22 • ROTOWIRE
Andrew Vaughn - Regaining foothold at first base Vaughn will start at first base and bat sixth in Monday's game against the Padres.
Impact Vaughn had been briefly overtaken by Jake Bauers as the Brewers' primary first baseman, but it will be Vaughn holding down first base Monday for the fifth time across the last seven contests. The 27-year-old Vaughn is slashing .415/.458/.561 in September, though he's yet to go deep this month.
SEPTEMBER 22 • ROTOWIRE
Jake Bauers - Yielding to Vaughn at first base Bauers is not in the lineup for Monday's game in San Diego.
Impact Bauers had a recent stretch with four straight starts at first base, but he'll yield the position to Andrew Vaughn on Monday for the fifth time across the last seven tilts. The 29-year-old Bauers did draw one start in left field during the latter stretch, but he looks to have fallen back behind Vaughn on the first-base depth chart.
SEPTEMBER 22 • ROTOWIRE
William Contreras - Returns to lineup Monday Contreras (hand) will start at catcher and bat cleanup in Monday's game versus the Padres.
Impact Contreras was held out of Sunday's lineup in St. Louis after his left hand was hit by an opposing hitter's bat during Saturday's game. He's well enough to give it a go after one day of rest as the Brewers open a series in San Diego.

Brandon Woodruff - Out with moderate lat strain Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Sunday that Woodruff was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a moderate right lat strain, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact Per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Woodruff suffered the injury on the 13th pitch of his bullpen session Saturday. After meeting with doctors in St. Louis on Sunday, Woodruff is scheduled to receive a second evaluation from Dr. Keith Meister, who performed surgery on the right-hander's shoulder in October 2023. The Brewers will await feedback from Dr. Meister before providing a timeline for Woodruff's return, though Murphy acknowledged that he's uncertain whether the 32-year-old will be ready to pitch in the NLDS, when he would first be eligible to return from the IL. However, given the initial diagnosis of a moderate lat strain rather than a mild one, Woodruff would appear to be a long shot to be available for the start of the Brewers' playoff run.

Robert Gasser - Yields two runs in season debut Gasser (0-1) allowed two runs on one hit and two walks over three innings Sunday, striking out two and taking a loss against St. Louis.
Impact Gasser threw a pair of scoreless frames before serving up a two-run shot to Ivan Herrera in the third inning. It was Gasser's first MLB appearance since undergoing Tommy John surgery in June 2024. He posted an impressive 2.57 ERA over 28 MLB innings last season before the injury. This year, he produced a 2.37 ERA through 38 innings while rehabbing across multiple minor-league levels. It's unclear how the Brewers plan to use Gasser down the stretch or in the postseason.
