Marlins walk 12 as strike zone eludes Cabrera NEW YORK -- Prior to Edward Cabrera’s second start of the season, also his second in a row against the Mets, Marlins manager Skip Schumaker...

Garrett Cooper - Clubs second homer Cooper went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 9-3 loss to the Mets.
Impact His eighth-inning shot off Dennis Santana spoiled New York's shutout attempt, but not much else went right for Miami on the afternoon. Cooper has had a strong start to the year, batting .296 (8-for-27) through seven games with a triple, two homers and five RBI.

Edward Cabrera - Can't find plate Friday Cabrera (0-1) took the loss Friday as the Marlins were downed 9-3 by the Mets, giving up two runs on zero hits and seven walks over 2.2 innings. He struck out four.
Impact The right-hander issued one free pass in the first inning and two in the second, but he managed to keep those baserunners from scoring before his control completely deserted him in the third. All told, Cabrera threw only 47 of 85 pitches for strikes, and he's now failed to last more than four innings in either of his first two starts of the year. If Braxton Garrett pitches well while filling in for Johnny Cueto (biceps) in the Marlins' rotation, Cabrera could find himself bumped to the bullpen or to Triple-A if he doesn't turn things around quickly.

Steven Okert - Rehab assignment on tap Okert (groin) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Okert is eligible for activation on April 11. While he might not quite be ready on that day, he does seem to be tracking toward a mid-April return.
APRIL 7, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Tommy Nance - Throws bullpen session Nance (shoulder) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Nance is working his way back from a shoulder issue and has finally progressed to mound work. He shouldn't be too far off from a rehab assignment.
APRIL 7, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Bryan De La Cruz - Remains out of lineup De La Cruz will take a seat Friday against the Mets.
Impact De La Cruz will remain on the bench for the second straight game as the Marlins launch their series versus New York after Thursday's postponement. Jesus Sanchez will draw another start in left field and bat seventh in the series opener.
APRIL 7, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Jacob Stallings - Day off Friday Stallings is not in the starting lineup Friday versus the Mets.
Impact Stallings will take a seat for a second straight game as the Marlins start their series against the Mets. Nick Fortes will draw the start behind the plate and bat eighth in the series opener.
APRIL 7, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Jazz Chisholm Jr. - Ready to go Friday Chisholm (shoulder) will start in center field and bat fourth in Friday's matchup with the Mets.
Impact Chisholm will be back in the lineup after he was removed from Wednesday's game versus the Twins early with a shoulder stinger. As a result of Thursday's contest with New York being postponed, Chisholm will end up avoiding any sort of absence from the lineup. The 25-year-old has had a slow start to the campaign, batting .190 with a solo home run and nine strikeouts in 21 at-bats over seven games this season. He'll look to get it turned around Friday against the Mets.

Dylan Floro - Nabs win Wednesday Floro (1-0) picked up the win in Wednesday's victory over the Twins, striking out one in a perfect eighth inning.
Impact The score was tied 1-1 when Floro entered the game, but the Marlins piled on four runs in the bottom of the frame. The right-hander has a win and a hold in his first two appearances this season, and while he's a key part of the team's high-leverage mix, A.J. Puk appears to be the favorite for saves for now.
APRIL 6, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Jazz Chisholm Jr. - Thinks he could've played Thursday Chisholm (shoulder) texted Marlins manager Skip Schumaker after Wednesday's game to say he was ready to play Thursday against the Mets, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Miami's trainers might have had a different opinion, but the point became moot when Thursday's game was postponed due to inclement weather. While Chisholm's injury looked serious when it happened, he's been diagnosed with just a stinger, and Thursday's delay might mean the injury doesn't cost him any further playing time. The 25-year-old played only 60 games last year due to multiple injuries, and keeping Chisholm healthy is one of the keys to the Marlins' 2023 season.
