INJURIES

On bench again Sunday Vientos is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Impact Though Vientos had seemed to overtake Brett Baty as the Mets' preferred third baseman earlier in the week, he now finds himself on the bench for the second straight day versus a right-handed starting pitcher (Logan Webb). Since getting a call-up from Triple-A Syracuse on May 15, Vientos has posted a 1.134 OPS in seven games, but he still looks like he'll be part of a timeshare at the hot corner with Baty.
MAY 26, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Drawing another start at third base Vientos will start at third base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game in Cleveland, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Impact Vientos earned another start at the hot corner after homering and doubling in Tuesday's loss to the Guardians. Both starts have come against right-handed pitching, which is notable since he and the left-handed-hitting Brett Baty had been in a strict platoon. Vientos is slashing .360/.407/.720 in eight games with the Mets this season.
MAY 22, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Home run, double vs. Guardians Vientos went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to Cleveland.
Impact Vientos got the Mets on the board in the fifth inning with a 430-foot bomb off Xzavion Curry before doubling in the sixth and scoring a second run on a Jeff McNeil homer. The 24-year-old Vientos is now 6-for-18 with four extra-base hits in five games since he was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse. With Brett Baty struggling to a .180/.255/.320 slash line in May, Vientos could be in line for more playing time at the hot corner.
MAY 22, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Martinez signing clouds role Vientos is likely to have a diminished role to begin the season after the Mets agreed to a contract with J.D. Martinez on Thursday, which was reported by Jon Heyman of the New York...
Impact Vientos appeared poised to open the season as a lineup regular between designated hitter and third base, but Martinez's signing a week before Opening Day significantly alters that outlook. Vientos clubbed four homers during spring training but hit just .217 and struck out 17 times in 54 plate appearances. The right-handed bat of Vientos may now begin the campaign in the short side of a platoon at the hot corner with the lefty-hitting Brett Baty.
MARCH 22, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Swats first homer of spring Vientos went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals.
Impact Getting the start at third base and batting fifth, the 24-year-old took Matthew Liberatore deep in the second inning for his first long ball of the spring. The Mets are looking for Vientos to take a step forward this season after he stumbled to a .211/.253/.367 slash line over 233 plate appearances in 2023 with a 30.5 percent strikeout rate, but it's not yet clear if he'll have a consistent spot in the lineup or will split his time between third base and DH while also occasionally spelling Pete Alonso at first base.
MARCH 2, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Heads Vientos will be on the bench for the first half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Phillies, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Down the stretch of a lost season, Vientos has been given plenty of opportunities to stake his claim for a significant role next season, starting 18 consecutive games prior to this one. He homered five times over that stretch, but his .224/.257/.448 slash line (90 wRC+) wasn't exactly convincing. Brett Baty will be the designated hitter for the afternoon contest.
SEPTEMBER 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Homers twice in victory Vientos went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Marlins.
Impact Vientos began the scoring in the contest with a solo shot in the second inning and added another solo blast in the sixth. This was the rookie's first multi-homer game of his big-league career -- he came into the contest with just six long balls over his first 236 plate appearances as a major leaguer. Vientos has demonstrated ample power in the minors, however, with 65 long balls over 245 minor-league games across the past three seasons.
SEPTEMBER 21, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Knocks three hits Vientos went 3-for-4 with a run, one RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Reds.
Impact Vientos knocked an RBI single and swiped second base in the fifth inning and later scored a run in the seventh. It was the first three-hit game of his MLB career and his third multi-hit performance this month. Vientos is slashing .218/.262/.345 with 16 RBI through 187 plate appearances on the year but he's gone 15-for-50 (.300) over his last 14 games.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Swats homer in victory Vientos went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday in a 7-1 win against the Diamondbacks.
Impact Vientos took Arizona ace Zac Gallen deep for a two-run shot in the sixth inning, increasing New York's lead to 6-0. It was his second long ball through eight games in September and his fifth across 49 contests overall this season. During his time so far with the Mets, Vientos has yet to fully unlock the power he displayed in mashing 40 long balls across 162 games in the minors over the past two campaigns.
SEPTEMBER 14, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Back in action Tuesday Vientos (foot) is batting fifth as the Mets' designated hitter Tuesday against the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Vientos hasn't seen game action since Saturday while dealing with a foot injury, but he'll rejoin the lineup for Tuesday's contest in Washinton. The 23-year-old is 5-for-10 with two solo homers in his past three games but still has a disappointing .586 OPS in 144 plate appearances this season.
SEPTEMBER 5, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Out Sunday with sore foot Vientos (foot) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.
Impact Vientos will take a seat for the series finale after he went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk before exiting Saturday's 8-7 loss with a sore right foot. The Mets will have Labor Day off, so Vientos will get two days to move past the foot injury before the team opens its two-game set in Washington on Tuesday.
SEPTEMBER 3, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Departs with sore foot Vientos had to be lifted from Saturday's game versus the Mariners because of right foot soreness, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Vientos evidently was bothered by a sore foot during his recent injured list stint with left wrist tendinitis and the foot issue flared up on him while running the bases Saturday. He'll be re-evaluated Sunday. Vientos cranked a solo home run and reached base three times Saturday before exiting.
SEPTEMBER 3, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Clubs third homer Vientos went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Rangers.
Impact The rookie ruined a combined shutout bid for Texas by driving a 100.6 mph Aroldis Chapman fastball the other way to right-center field in the ninth inning. Vientos has started three straight games since recovering from a wrist injury and coming off the IL -- two at third base and one at DH -- but if Brett Baty (.298/.396/.649 at Triple-A since his demotion with a 21.6 percent strikeout rate) rejoins the roster in September, he could lose most of his playing time at the hot corner. Vientos has done little to show he deserves a regular spot in the lineup, slashing .195/.234/.305 over 137 plate appearances in the majors this season with three homers and 11 RBI.
AUGUST 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Activated from injured list The Mets activated Vientos (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Sunday.
Impact Vientos will be back in action in Sunday's series finale against the Angels after missing exactly 10 days due to left wrist tendinitis. The 24-year-old has posted a disappointing .195/.230/.288 batting line across 126 major-league plate appearances this season, but he should play regularly down the stretch as the Mets look ahead to 2024 and beyond.
AUGUST 27, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Expected back Sunday Vientos (wrist) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Sunday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Vientos played a rehab game with Triple-A Syracuse on Friday and it's apparently the only one he will need. The rookie infielder has been out since mid-August with left wrist tendinitis. He had been seeing regular action at third base before the injury and should return to playing most every day.
AUGUST 27, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Begins rehab assignment Vientos (wrist) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, MLB.com reports.
Impact Vientos doubled, drew a walk and scored a pair of runs while playing all 10 innings at third base in his first rehab game. He is eligible for activation Saturday and it sounds like rejoining the Mets is imminent. Vientos has been out since mid-August with left wrist tendinitis.
AUGUST 26, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Goes on IL with sore wrist Vientos was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to Aug. 16, with left wrist inflammation, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
Impact Imaging scans taken Wednesday showed no structural damage, but Vientos will rest his wrist for at least the next nine days. Jonathan Arauz and Danny Mendick will likely share time at third base in his absence. Arauz is getting the start there in the Mets' series opener Thursday against the Cardinals.
AUGUST 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Out again with sore wrist Vientos (wrist) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's series opener at St. Louis.
Impact Vientos missed Wednesday's series finale against the Pirates due to left wrist discomfort, but an MRI showed only inflammation and it seems like he'll be able to avoid the injured list. Jonathan Arauz is covering third base for the Mets on Thursday against the Cardinals. Daniel Vogelbach will fill the DH role.
AUGUST 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Nursing wrist inflammation Vientos underwent an MRI on his left wrist which revealed inflammation, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.
Impact Vientos was pinch-hit for in Tuesday's loss to the Pirates because his wrist was bothering him and he's not in the lineup Wednesday. It appears he's avoided a serious injury, though, providing hope that he'll be able to return to action at some point during the weekend series against the Cardinals.
AUGUST 16, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Steps out of starting nine Vientos is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
Impact Jonathan Arauz will get the nod at third base for the series finale while Vientos gets a breather following a stretch of 10 consecutive starts. Though Vientos has taken hold of an everyday role in the aftermath of the Aug. 1 trade deadline, he's provided little value for fantasy managers. On the month, Vientos is hitting just .154 with no home runs, two RBI, one run and no stolen bases in 14 games.
AUGUST 16, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Clear runway at third base Vientos is expected to serve as the Mets' everyday third baseman after Brett Baty was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Though he's serving as the Mets' designated hitter and No. 5 batter Monday against Cubs southpaw Drew Smyly, Vientos looks poised to see the bulk of the starts at third base versus right-handed pitching while Daniel Vogelbach handles DH duties for those matchups. Known more for his prowess with the bat while he was coming up the Mets' farm system, Vientos may not have the defensive chops to stick at third base in the long term, but the non-contending Mets will at least use the next few weeks as a test run to see if he can hold his own at the position.
AUGUST 7, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Staking claim to everyday role Vientos will start at third base and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Orioles.
Impact Vientos will stick in the starting nine for the fifth time in six games and is slashing .257/.289/.429 in 11 games overall since he was called up from Triple-A Syracuse on July 20. With the 50-60 Mets effectively removing themselves from the National League wild-card race, the 23-year-old Vientos will likely to continue to poach work from the 30-year-old Daniel Vogelbach as the organization prioritizes the development of some of its younger players.
AUGUST 6, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Finding groove at plate Vientos went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI in Saturday's 11-6 loss to the Nationals.
Impact The rookie took Andres Machado deep in the ninth inning for a solo shot after ripping an RBI double in the second. Vientos has started five of the last seven games -- three at DH and two at third base -- and he figures to keep a near-everyday role after Tuesday's trade deadline, especially if the Mets ship out players like Tommy Pham and Mark Canha. Vientos is earning that playing time, hitting .333 (7-for-21) since his most recent promotion with two doubles and a homer, but his 1:7 BB:K over that seven-game stretch suggests his batting average will fade even if his power is legit.
JULY 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Batting second Wednesday Vientos is starting at third base and batting second Wednesday versus the Yankees.
Impact This is the highest major-league lineup spot of the year for Vientos, who has gone 4-for-10 with a double since being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse last Thursday. Brett Baty continues to struggle offensively and the underperforming Mets might move some parts at the trade deadline, so Vientos could perhaps be in for an elevated role down the stretch.
JULY 26, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Recalled from Syracuse The Mets recalled Vientos from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact With Starling Marte (head) headed for the injured list Thursday, Vientos will come up from Triple-A to fill Marte's roster spot. Vientos holds a 1.000 OPS in Syracuse but is slashing just .173/.244/.259 across 90 plate appearances in the majors throughout his career.
