Socks first spring homer Vientos went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run home run in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals.
Impact After Francisco Lindor reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the first inning for the Mets, Vientos crushed a Jake Irvin pitch over the fence in left-center field. It was the third baseman's first long ball of the spring, and Vientos has had a solid camp so far, batting .273 (6-for-22) with a 1:3 BB:K in eight appearances. After a breakout 2024, New York is counting on the 25-year-old to handle a spot in the heart of the batting order this season.

"I love Juan Soto already" - Mark Vientos raves about $765,000,000 Mets teammate's personality and professionalism Mark Vientos' New York Mets made a big splash this offseason by signing prized free agent Juan Soto to a record 15-year, $765 million contra...

Sticking at third base Vientos is slated to remain at third base for the Mets following their re-signing of Pete Alonso, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Vientos was set to shift to first base when it looked like Alonso was headed elsewhere, but he'll now get to stick at the hot corner. The 25-year-old appears set to bat cleanup behind Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto and Alonso, setting him up for plenty of RBI opportunities.
FEBRUARY 6, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
In line to shift over to first base The Mets' current plan is to have Vientos be their first baseman this season, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Impact That's assuming Pete Alonso isn't re-signed, which is now the expectation. Vientos had a breakout season offensively in 2024, slashing .266/.322/.516 with 27 home runs over 111 regular-season contests for the Mets before adding another five long balls and a .998 OPS in the playoffs. The 25-year-old earned a minus-6 Outs Above Average at third base, so a move to the cold corner isn't a surprise. Brett Baty, Ronny Mauricio (knee) and Luisangel Acuna are in line to compete for the third base job.

Being viewed as third baseman Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said Monday that the team views Vientos as its third baseman right now, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.
Impact "Right now" is key, of course, as the Mets seem virtually certain to acquire a corner infielder and that will help determine whether Vientos plays the hot or cold corner. Regardless of the position he plays, Vientos is going to occupy a spot in the middle of the Mets' lineup, perhaps batting third after Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto.
DECEMBER 9, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Not in lineup for second game Vientos is absent from the lineup for the second game of Monday's doubleheader against Atlanta, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
Impact Vientos will get a breather for the second game after the Mets wrapped up a playoff spot with their win in the first contest. Jose Iglesias will shift over to third base while Eddy Alvarez gets a start at second base.
SEPTEMBER 30, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Belts 26th homer Vientos went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to Atlanta.
Impact The 24-year-old spoiled Spencer Schwellenbach's shutout bid in the seventh inning when he drove the first pitch he saw the other way for a 346-foot homer. Vientos has had an up-and-down September, but he's racked up seven hits in the last six games, including a double and two long balls, despite striking out 11 times in 25 plate appearances. He's overall had a successful first extended look at big-league pitching, posting a .270/.328/.523 slash line with 26 home runs and 68 RBI in 107 contests this season, but the Mets may need a little more from him if they're going to hang onto a wild-card spot.
SEPTEMBER 25, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Hits two homers, including walk-off Vientos went 3-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI and an additional run scored in Friday's 6-4 win against Cincinnati.
Impact The Mets third baseman opened the game's scoring when he laced a 368-foot, two-run homer off opener Fernando Cruz in the first inning. Vientos then capped the game's scoring when he cracked a walk-off, 401-foot, two-run blast in the tenth. The 24-year-old has been a significant source of power this season, as he's now slashing .289/.342/.563 with 24 homers, 62 RBI and 50 runs scored across 368 plate appearances in 91 games.
SEPTEMBER 7, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Idle Monday Vientos isn't in the Mets' lineup for Monday's game versus the Red Sox.
Impact After going 5-for-14 with an RBI during New York's last series against the White Sox, Vientos will get a chance to rest during Monday's series opener. Jose Iglesias will start at the hot corner instead and bat fifth.
SEPTEMBER 2, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Getting breather Thursday Vientos isn't in the Mets' lineup for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Impact Vientos will get a chance to rest Thursday after slashing .256/.273/.442 with two homers and seven RBI over his last 10 games. Jose Iglesias will take his place at the hot corner and bat seventh.
AUGUST 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Goes deep Sunday Vientos went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Padres.
Impact Vientos took Jason Adam deep to center in the seventh inning for one of two extra-base hits the Mets had all afternoon. It's the third time in his last five games with multiple hits and he now leads all National League third basemen with 21 homers despite having just 332 plate appearances. Vientos has seen himself batting from the two-hole the last 10 games, and while he owns a .977 OPS over that span, he's also striking out 44.9 percent of the time compared to 24.7 percent before the lineup change. The 24-year-old is enjoying a breakout campaign, slashing .277/.334/.551 with 41 extra-base hits, 55 RBI, 44 runs and a 25:92 BB:K.
AUGUST 26, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Two hits, three RBI in win Vientos went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI in Thursday's win over the Padres.
Impact Vientos doubled home the Mets' first run of the game in the opening frame and later added a two-run single in the top of the ninth to extend his team's lead to four runs. It marked the second consecutive multi-hit effort for the third baseman and the fourth in his last eight games. Vientos also extended his hitting streak to 10 games with Thursday's performance and he's now driven in at least one run in three straight.
AUGUST 23, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Homers twice Thursday Vientos went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs and three total RBI in Thursday's 7-6 loss to the A's.
Impact Batting out of the two-hole for the first time this year, Vientos certainly made a case to stay at the top of the order -- the third baseman launched a two-run homer off Mitch Spence in the third inning before adding a solo shot off Michel Otanez in the fourth. Vientos had cooled off a bit after a hot start to his season. Thursday's performance was his first multi-hit game since July 26 -- he'd gone 10-for-50 (.200) in his subsequent 15 contests. Still, it's been an impressive campaign overall for Vientos, who's established himself as a regular in the Mets' lineup. He's now slashing .275/.333/.557 through 288 plate appearances with 19 homers, 48 RBI and 38 runs scored.
AUGUST 15, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Back in action Wednesday Vientos (ankle) will start at third base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game versus the Athletics.
Impact Vientos missed the previous two contests with left ankle soreness, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go Wednesday. The young infielder has struggled so far at the plate in August, going just 5-for-30.
AUGUST 14, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting again Tuesday Vientos (ankle) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Athletics, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Impact The 24-year-old was a late scratch from Sunday's lineup against the Mariners due to left ankle soreness, and he'll sit for a second consecutive game Tuesday. Jose Iglesias will receive a start at third base and bat seventh in Vientos' absence.
AUGUST 13, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Out with ankle soreness Vientos is dealing with left ankle soreness, causing his removal from Sunday's lineup versus Seattle, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Vientos was a late scratch from the lineup versus the Mariners, which is now understood to be the result of discomfort in his left ankle. He can be considered day-to-day ahead of Monday's day off prior to Oakland coming to Citi Field for a three-game series Tuesday.
AUGUST 11, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Late scratch Sunday Vientos (undisclosed) was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Mariners, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Vientos was originally set to start at third base and bat eighth Sunday, but he's been scratched for an undisclosed reason. More information on his status will likely come in the near future, but in the meantime, Jose Iglesias will slide over to the hot corner while Ben Gamel enters the lineup in right field after some shuffling.
AUGUST 11, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Launches 17th homer Vientos went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Thursday's win over the Rockies.
Impact The young third baseman took advantage of the thin air at Coors Field by taking Peter Lambert deep to left-center field in the fifth inning for his 17th long ball of the season. Vientos hasn't had a multi-hit performance since July 26, but he's been able to stay somewhat productive during that time, collecting three doubles, three homers and six RBI in 10 games despite a .184 batting average (7-for-38) and 2:12 BB:K.
AUGUST 9, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting Wednesday Vientos isn't in the Mets' lineup Wednesday against the Rockies.
Impact Vientos will get a chance to regroup Wednesday after going 0-for-8 with two strikeouts over his last two games. In his place, Jose Iglesias will start at third base and bat sixth.
AUGUST 7, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Back in lineup Vientos (ankle) will start at third base and bat fifth Tuesday against the Rockies.
Impact Vientos fouled a ball off his right ankle Sunday and was forced to sit out Monday's contest as a result, but it no longer seems to be an issue heading into Tuesday. The 24-year-old was held hitless during his last game, snapping a six-game hit streak that saw him go 6-for-22 with two homers and four RBI.
AUGUST 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Out with ankle injury Vientos didn't play Monday against the Cardinals after fouling a ball off his right ankle Sunday, MLB.com reports. "Kind of [swelled] up after the game, but he's better today," man...
Impact The third baseman was still able to go through his normal pregame routine, so the day off appears to be merely precautionary. Vientos is slashing .241/.300/.537 over 15 games since the All-Star break with four homers and nine RBI, but those numbers could improve in a hurry if he returns to the lineup Tuesday as the Mets begin a three-game series at Coors Field.
AUGUST 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Getting breather Vientos is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.
Impact After making 12 consecutive starts, Vientos will get the evening off Monday. Jose Iglesias will fill the hot corner and bat sixth.
AUGUST 5, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Slugs 16th homer Vientos went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's loss to the Twins.
Impact The third baseman gave the Mets an early, if temporary, lead when he took Pablo Lopez deep in the second inning. Vientos has gone yard in back-to-back games and four times in the last eight contests, boosting his slash line on the season to .286/.341/.563 with 16 homers and 42 RBI in 246 plate appearances.
AUGUST 1, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Strong month continues Vientos went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run and three RBI in Friday's win over Atlanta.
Impact The third baseman slugged a two-run homer off Charlie Morton in the third inning, one of three Mets long balls in the frame. Vientos has put together an impressive July, slashing .293/.341/.520 over 20 games with five doubles, four homers and 13 RBI as he solidifies his hold on the starting job at the hot corner.
