Handed loss versus Rockies Urquidy (0-2) took the loss Wednesday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks with one strikeout in five innings versus the Rockies.
Impact Urquidy struggled with the Rockies' order the first time through, giving up all four runs in the first two innings, but he improved as his outing progressed. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 5.14 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB across 21 innings this season. Urquidy is scheduled to make his next start at home Monday versus the Mariners.

Strikes out seven Friday Urquidy pitched 5.2 innings against Seattle on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven. He did not factor in the decision.
Impact Urquidy began the contest with five scoreless innings before allowing a two-run double to Kyle Seager in the sixth. That was the final pitch of the game for the right-hander, and he consequently just missed out on his first quality start of the campaign. Urquidy struck out seven for the second straight contest and now has an impressive 19:4 K:BB over 16 innings this season. His next start will be at Colorado on Wednesday.

Gives up four runs in loss Urquidy (0-1) gave up four runs on seven hits while fanning seven across six innings Saturday against the Athletics. He was tagged with the loss.
Impact Urquidy tossed more than 90 pitches for the second start in a row, but he was far more efficient in this one -- he went six complete innings but that wasn't enough to outduel Frankie Montas, who allowed just one run through six frames. This was a step in the right direction for the 25-year-old compared to his season debut, though, and he will look to earn his first win of the season in his next start, scheduled for April 16 at Seattle.

Doesn't last long enough for win Urquidy threw 4.1 innings Sunday against Oakland, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five.
Impact Urquidy pitched well enough in his season debut, though his inefficiency represents a potential concern. Unlike many starters who were pulled before being eligible to earn a win in their first outing of the season, Urquidy handled a full workload, throwing 101 pitches, but that still wasn't enough for him to complete the fifth inning. Most of his trouble came early, as he faced seven batters in the first inning before facing just 10 over the next three frames. Urquidy's next outing should come Saturday, also against the Athletics.

Shines in final spring start Urquidy struck out four over five perfect innings in Thursday's spring game against the Cardinals.
Impact There's not much more than can be written than "five perfect innings." While spring starts should be viewed in context, Urquidy was pleased with the outing. "My stuff was very good," the pitcher said. "Trying to command all my stuff on the corners, up in the zone, some offspeed on the floor, and I was very focused on doing that. I think this outing was very good for me." After giving up six runs and eight hits over his first eight Grapefruit League innings, Urquidy enters the regular season on a huge positive note. The right-hander is locked into the rotation and one of three Houston starters stretched out heading into April. He joins Zack Greinke and Lance McCullers at the top of the rotation, while a mix of Bryan Abreu, Brandon Bielak, Luis Garcia and Cristian Javier get the team through the first two turns of the rotation.

Ups pitch count Urquidy allowed two runs on three hits while striking out three over 3.2 innings in Monday's spring game against the Marlins.
Impact The two runs came on a flyball that right fielder Kyle Tucker lost in the sun, so the line looks worse than Urquidy felt. The right-hander raised his pitch count to 61 pitches (42 strikes) in his third Cactus League appearance. He'll get another two spring starts in preparation for the regular season.

Throws 45 pitches Urquidy allowed three runs on three hits and one walk while striking out three over 2.1 innings in Wednesday's spring game against the Marlins.
Impact Urquidy got up to 45 pitches (32 strikes) and pitched into the third inning, putting him on the same schedule as the other starters. He told Brian McTaggart of MLB.com that he intends to throw more curveballs in 2021, and Urquidy featured that offering during Wednesday's contest (12 of his 45 pitches). Urquidy's curve was the least used of his four pitches (11.9 percent) in 2020.

Throws two innings Urquidy allowed one run on two hits over two innings in Friday's spring game against Miami.
Impact Urquidy made his spring debut Friday and suddenly increases in importance, as Houston's starting rotation and depth is currently being challenged. Framber Valdez (finger) could miss the season while Luis Garcia and Cristian Javier are away from camp due to health and safety protocols.

On bump Friday Urquidy will start Friday's spring game against the Marlins.
Impact The new-look Urquidy will be making his spring debut Friday. He arrived at camp 15 pounds lighter in preparation for what could be 30 starts and 200 innings if he remains healthy. Urquidy became a more important piece this week after fellow starter Framber Valdez sustained a finger injury that could lead to season-ending surgery.
MARCH 5, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Shows up lighter Urquidy said he dropped 15 pounds over the offseason, Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Coming off a surprising 2019, Urquidy's star was on the rise entering 2020. The right-hander was expected to be a significant piece of the rotation, but a bout with COVID-19 during the summer delayed his season debut until September. Urquidy said his goal of pitching 200-plus innings was the motivation behind the weight loss. "I'm very focused to throw more than 200 innings. I think I can do that," he said. "I feel strong (enough) to do that." He's expected to be part of a rotation that needs to replace the innings that Justin Verlander (elbow) would have given the team.
