INJURIES

Solid over five frames Suarez did not factor into the decision in a loss to the Astros on Thursday, allowing one unearned run on three hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out five.
Impact Suarez allowed just two walks and a single over the first three frames before Yainer Diaz reached on a fielding error to open the fourth. The veteran lefty would then see a run come home after surrendering back-to-back singles in the next two at-bats, but he was able to retire the next six batters in succession before completing five innings for the first time on the campaign. Suarez looked solid in only his second start this season and he's now recorded five strikeouts in back-to-back outings (with the previous one coming in relief). He'll look to secure his second win of the season next week when the Angels travel to Chicago to take on the White Sox.
SEPTEMBER 20, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Getting start Thursday Suarez is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Astros, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact As expected, Suarez will be moving from the bullpen to take over the rotation spot that was created after the Angels demoted Caden Dana to Double-A Rocket City and placed Samuel Aldegheri (finger) on the injured list. Suarez has made just one other start with the Angels this season, which came back on June 11 versus the Diamondbacks. He failed to escape the third inning in that outing and was charged with four earned runs on six hits and one walk.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Shifting to rotation Suarez will move into the Angels' starting rotation after Sam Aldegheri (finger) was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact The left-hander had his contract selected by the Angels on Sept. 9, and he delivered seven scoreless frames of long relief in his two appearances. Suarez posted an 8.15 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 46:23 K:BB across 35.1 innings for the Angels before being designated for assignment in mid-June.
SEPTEMBER 15, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Nabs three-inning save in return Suarez earned a save against the Twins on Monday, walking one batter and striking out four in three hitless and scoreless innings.
Impact Suarez returned to the big-league club Monday after spending over two months in the minors. The left-hander tossed 48 pitches (28 of which were strikes) against Minnesota, allowing just one baserunner in an impressive outing. Suarez has experience as both a starter and a reliever in the majors, and it seems likely that he'll function in a long-relief role down the stretch if he remains on Los Angeles' roster.
SEPTEMBER 10, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Back on big-league roster The Angels selected Suarez's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.
Impact Suarez was removed from the 40-man roster back in June but has made his way back to the majors after posting a 6.54 ERA and 62:17 K:BB over 52.1 innings covering 11 starts. The left-hander will likely operate in a long relief role.
SEPTEMBER 9, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Designated for assignment The Angels designated Suarez for assignment Monday.
Impact Suarez looked like he was going to be a solid mid-rotation starter for the Angels when he posted a 3.86 ERA and 188:69 K:BB over 207.1 innings from 2021-22. It's been tough sledding since then, though, with an 8.22 ERA over 29 appearances (eight starts). He also missed a large chunk of 2023 with shoulder problems. Still, as a 26-year-old that's shown promise in the past, there might be interest in Suarez via trade or waivers.
JUNE 17, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Opening Friday Suarez will open Friday's game against the Twins, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Impact Suarez has given up two runs over 2.2 innings since returning from the injured list Sept. 11. He'll likely remain in the game for an inning or two before turning things over to Davis Daniel, who's slated for bulk innings Friday.
SEPTEMBER 22, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Back from injured list Suarez (shoulder) was activated from the injured list Monday.
Impact There had not been an update on Suarez's status since he was shut down in early August, but he apparently made significant progress in recent weeks and is ready to resuming pitching for the big club. The Angels have not announced any starting pitchers beyond Tuesday, so it's possible Suarez could jump right back into the rotation.
SEPTEMBER 11, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Shut down from rehab stint Suarez's minor-league rehab assignment has been shut down due to left shoulder soreness, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Impact Suarez recently kicked off the rehab stint and made two appearances for the Angels' ACL club, allowing one run on five hits and two walks while striking out four batters over a combined 3.1 innings. However, he'll now take a step back due to the setback with his shoulder. Angels manager Phil Nevin indicated that the organization isn't concerned that Suarez will need to be held out for a long period, though it's not yet clear when the southpaw will begin throwing again.
AUGUST 2, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Begins rehab assignment Suarez (shoulder) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings for the Angels' Arizona Complex League team Tuesday, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out two batters.
Impact Suarez last pitched for the Angels on May 7, when he departed his start against Texas after 2.2 frames with left shoulder discomfort. He was moved to the 60-day IL on June 20 but recently began throwing to hitters before taking part in the ACL game Tuesday. Per MLB.com, Suarez will make another rehab start Sunday, this time with a full-season affiliate. It hasn't yet been decided whether the left-hander will work as a starter or a reliever upon his eventual return to the big club.
JULY 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Shifted to 60-day IL The Angels transferred Suarez (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.
Impact Suarez has been on the injured list since May 8 with a left shoulder strain, and his recent transfer to the 60-day IL will keep him out for at least the first week of July. The move opens up a spot for Kevin Padlo to be selected from Triple-A Salt Late and join the Angels' infield.
JUNE 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
No structural damage found in MRI Suarez will be shut down for about a month with left shoulder inflammation, but his MRI revealed no structural damage, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Impact Suarez left Sunday's start in the second inning after feeling soreness in his left shoulder, and the MRI revealed the inflammation after he was placed on the injured list Monday. The shutdown will cause him to miss the rest of May and the start of June, but the positive news is that it doesn't appear he'll need surgery and he should be an option for the Angels for the second half of the 2023 campaign at the very least.
MAY 9, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Placed on injured list Suarez was placed on the 15-day injured list by the Angels on Monday with a left shoulder injury, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Impact Suarez felt soreness in his left shoulder during the second inning of Sunday's start against the Rangers, and the results of an MRI were concerning enough for the left-hander to be placed on the injured list. He'll miss at least two weeks of action, and Cesar Valdez has been recalled to take Suarez's place on the roster. There's a good chance Chase Silseth will now be moved into the rotation after he threw 3.1 innings of relief after Suarez left.
MAY 8, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Undergoing MRI on shoulder Suarez will undergo an MRI on Monday after exiting Sunday's start against the Rangers with left shoulder discomfort, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Impact Suarez first felt soreness in the second inning before finally being removed in the third when it didn't dissipate. A stint on the injured list for Suarez seems likely even if he gets favorable news from the MRI, especially since his spot in the Angels' rotation was already on thin ice. Chase Silseth went 3.1 innings in relief of Suarez on Sunday and would be an obvious candidate to replace him in the rotation.
MAY 7, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Leaves with trainer Suarez exited Sunday's start against the Rangers with an athletic trainer, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Impact Suarez was charged with seven earned runs across 2.2 innings, but his removal is clearly injury related since the Angels didn't have any relievers warming up. It remains to be seen if the issue will affect his availability for the next turn through the rotation.
MAY 7, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Five scoreless in first win Suarez (1-1) earned the win during Sunday's 3-0 victory over Milwaukee, tossing five scoreless innings in which he allowed two hits and three walks. He struck out six.
Impact Suarez allowed seven runs, including five homers, his last time out, but he was given another shot in the rotation and came through with his best outing of the campaign. The left-hander's ERA dropped from 10.26 to 7.89, and his six strikeouts were a season high. Despite the solid bounce back, the 25-year-old is likely still on the hot seat and could be in danger of being demoted to the bullpen or Triple-A if he struggles in his next start.
MAY 1, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Still in rotation Angels manager Phil Nevin said Tuesday that Suarez will remain in the team's rotation on a start-by-start basis, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Impact Suarez's start to the season has certainly been less than ideal -- he holds a 10.26 ERA and 2.28 WHIP through his first four starts. After allowing five homers and seven earned runs against Oakland on Monday, his leash has now been tightened even further. Nevin said he liked what he saw from Suarez after making some adjustments in the fourth inning Monday, so the 25-year-old lefty will keep his spot in the rotation for now. However, one more subpar performance might demote him to the bullpen or even Triple-A.

Yields five homers Suarez allowed seven runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings during Monday's loss to Oakland. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision.
Impact Suarez was cursed by the long ball Monday, coughing up five home runs in the ugly start. He served up back-to-back shots to Brent Rooker and Jesus Aguilar in both the first and third innings. Suarez was in line for the loss before the Angels' bats got hot late and forced an extra inning. He's struggled out of the gate this season, posting an ugly 10.26 ERA and 12:9 K:BB through four outings. At this point, it's unclear if he'll get another shot in the rotation.
APRIL 25, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Will remain in rotation Angels manager Phil Nevin told reporters before Wednesday's game against the Yankees that Suarez will remain in the rotation, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Impact Suarez has really struggled in his appearances thus far for the Angels with a 9.26 ERA over 11 2/3 innings while allowing 21 hits. The Angels will allow him to make at least one more start -- Suarez is scheduled to face off against the Athletics next week -- but another disappointing effort could lead to a change in the rotation.
APRIL 19, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Gives up two in another short start Suarez allowed two runs on three hits and six walks while striking out one over 3.1 innings Tuesday against the Yankees. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Suarez showed major struggles with his command but was able to work around his self-induced troubles and limit the Yankees to two runs. He pitched out of a bases loaded situation in the first and left two more runners stranded in the second. Two more walks and a base hit loaded up the bases for Suarez once again in the fourth and he was replaced by Andrew Wantz. Wantz walked in a run and gave up another on a sac fly, both of which were charged to Suarez. The Venezuelan native now sits at a 9.26 ERA, 2.40 WHIP and a 7:7 K:BB over 11.2 innings.
APRIL 19, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Gives up four runs in no decision Suarez did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing four runs on 10 hits and one walk over four innings during a 6-4 loss to the Nationals. He struck out two.
Impact Suarez was given early run support, but he wasn't able to hold onto the lead and was tagged for three runs in the fourth, tying the game at 4-4. The left-hander is coming off back-to-back sub-4.00 ERA seasons, but he's struggled to start the 2023 campaign, allowing 10 runs on 18 hits over his two starts (8.1 innings).

Impact The 25-year-old lefty was able to break camp as the Halos' No. 5 starter, but after a strong close to the 2022 campaign, he wasn't able to get off on the right foot in his 2023 season debut. He faced five batters and needed 31 pitches to record three outs in the opening frame, though he limited the damage to just one run, which came on a wild pitch. Suarez appeared to right the ship with a pair of 1-2-3 innings, but he unraveled in the fourth, surrendering three straight hits, including a Teoscar Hernandez home run. He served up another home run to Hernandez the following an inning before being pulled from the contest a batter later.
