INJURIES

Nabs three-inning save Suarez gave up two hits and a walk over three scoreless innings Friday to record his first save of the season in a win over the Phillies.
Impact Atlanta waltzed to a 9-0 victory, and Suarez finished out the shutout after Martin Perez had tossed six innings. Suarez has filled a swingman role to begin the season, posting a 6.35 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 12:5 K:BB in 11.1 innings over five appearances (one start), but he could lose his spot on the 26-man roster once Spencer Strider (oblique) is ready for his 2026 debut.

Back in bullpen Suarez has made his last two appearances out of the Atlanta bullpen, yielding three earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four batters across 2.2 innings.
Impact After the Atlanta rotation was hit hard by injuries in spring training, Suarez was called upon to start the club's fifth game of the season back on March 31. However, after getting roughed up for four earned runs in 3.2 innings in a loss to the Athletics, Suarez ended up moved to the bullpen while Atlanta turned to Martin Perez as its new fifth starter. Though Perez has since been designated for assignment, Suarez may not be next in line to fill the open rotation spot. Instead, Atlanta may be inclined to turn to either Didier Fuentes or JR Ritchie -- both of whom have gotten off to excellent starts at Triple-A Gwinnett -- to step into the fifth starter's role.

Yields four runs in loss Suarez (0-1) took the loss against the Athletics on Tuesday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six across 3.2 innings.
Impact Suarez opened Tuesday's game strongly by striking out two of the first three batters he faced, but he struggled across the next three frames before being pulled in the fourth. He was tabbed as Atlanta's fifth starter in the rotation after Spencer Strider (oblique) opened the season on the 15-day IL, but performances like Tuesday's would put Suarez in danger of losing his spot to candidates like Martin Perez and Didier Fuentes. For now, Suarez is slated to start against the Diamondbacks this weekend.

Tapped to start Tuesday Suarez will start Tuesday's game against the Athletics, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Impact Suarez will see his first action of the 2026 season Tuesday, and depending on how the outing goes, he could remain in the rotation as Atlanta's fifth starter until Spencer Strider (oblique) returns from the injured list. Suarez made one start a season ago with Atlanta and allowed two runs over seven innings and struck out nine in a victory over the Nationals.
MARCH 31 • ROTOWIRE
Could step in as fifth starter Atlanta is expected to turn to Suarez as its fifth starter to begin the season after manager Walt Weiss said Monday that Spencer Strider (oblique) will be placed on the injured lis...
Impact Non-roster invitee Martin Perez is also a candidate to fill the open spot in the rotation, but Suarez looks primed to get the first chance to replace Strider since he's already on the 40-man roster and was built up as a starter during spring training. Before Strider suffered the oblique injury, Suarez had secured a long-relief spot in the Atlanta bullpen after logging a 3.38 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB in 16 innings over five Grapefruit League outings. Assuming he's indeed called upon to fill in for Strider when a fifth starter is first needed, Suarez would line up to make his Atlanta debut March 31 versus the Athletics at Truist Park.
MARCH 23 • ROTOWIRE
On track for roster spot Suarez allowed one run on two hits and two walks over 5.1 innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates. He struck out six.
Impact The 28-year-old southpaw has had a solid spring, posting a 3.38 ERA and 14:8 K:BB over 16 innings, and he built up to 75 pitches (44 strikes) during Friday's start. With Martin Perez having fallen short of a bid for a spot on the Opening Day roster, Suarez and prospect Didier Fuentes are set to begin the season in the bullpen as long-relief options, although one or both of them could be called upon for spot starts as Atlanta begins its schedule with 13 games in 13 days.
MARCH 21 • ROTOWIRE
Strengthens bid for roster spot Suarez allowed our hits and two walks over four scoreless innings in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. He struck out three.
Impact Facing a Philly lineup that featured about half of the team's Opening Day starters, including Trea Turner, Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott, Suarez tossed 36 of 61 pitches for strikes to kick off a combined shutout for Atlanta. The 28-year-old southpaw is out of minor-league options, and while he may not be in the mix for a rotation spot, Suarez could begin the season as a long reliever to help provide some length as the team plays 13 games in 13 days right out of the gate.
MARCH 16 • ROTOWIRE
Could make Opening Day roster Suarez might end up beginning the season on the 26-man roster as Atlanta navigates playing 13 games in 13 days to open its schedule, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Impact While the team is expected to use a six-man rotation during that 13-day slog, that sixth starter -- likely to be Martin Perez, but with prospects JR Ritchie and Didier Fuentes also in the mix -- could be called up early in the season rather than being on the Opening Day roster. In that scenario, Suarez could stick instead as a versatile arm capable of starting or relieving who is also out of minor-league options, with Atlanta then re-evaluating his place on the staff in early April. The 28-year-old southpaw made seven appearances (one start) for Atlanta in 2025, producing a 1.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 16:10 K:BB over 19.1 innings.
MARCH 13 • ROTOWIRE
Going back to Atlanta Atlanta claimed Suarez off waivers from the Orioles on Monday.
Impact Suarez went from Atlanta to Baltimore via waivers earlier this month and is now headed back the other direction. The left-hander made seven appearances (one start) with Atlanta in 2025, finishing with a 1.86 ERA and 16:10 K:BB across 19.1 innings of work. Suarez doesn't have minor-league options remaining, so if he's still with Atlanta on Opening Day, he's likely to slide into a long relief role with the big club.

Removed from 40-man roster The Orioles designated Suarez for assignment Thursday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Bostonreports.
Impact The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Weston Wilson, who was claimed off waivers. Suarez was a waiver claim of the Orioles himself just one week ago and will now go through the waivers process again. The lefty held a 1.86 ERA and 16:10 K:BB across 19.1 innings of work for Atlanta in 2025.

Claimed by O's The Orioles claimed Suarez off waivers from Atlanta on Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact Suarez made the most of his limited big-league opportunities in 2025, turning in a 1.86 ERA and 1.29 WHIP across 19.1 innings spanning seven appearances (one start). The 28-year-old lefty doesn't have any minor-league options remaining, so he will have to break spring camp with the Orioles -- likely as a long reliever -- to keep his spot on the 40-man roster.

Avoids arbitration with Atlanta Atlanta and Suarez avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract Friday.
Impact Suarez made seven appearances (one start) with Atlanta in 2025, finishing with a 1.86 ERA and 16:10 K:BB across 19.1 innings of work. The left-hander holds a career 5.30 ERA over parts of seven major-league seasons and does not have minor-league options remaining, so he could open the 2026 campaign as a long reliever.

Earns first save Suarez picked up the save Monday against Washington. He allowed five hits and no walks while striking out two over three scoreless innings.
Impact Suarez came in to handle the final three innings Monday, locking down his first save of the year. The southpaw hasn't logged a ton of big-league action, but he's been effective when used, working to a 1.96 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 18.1 innings across six appearances (one start).

Impact The nine Ks were a career high for Suarez, who was making his first big-league start of the season and first MLB appearance since Apr. 10. The 27-year-old southpaw missed over two months this summer in the minors with an undisclosed injury, but in four appearances with Triple-A Gwinnett after being activated from the 7-day IL in late August he posted a 2.70 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 23:6 K:BB over 20 innings, and he carried that momentum with him to the majors after his promotion. Suarez was originally brought up for a spot start in the twin bill, but after racking up a massive 21 swinging strikes on 99 pitches (65 total strikes) against the Nats, he may have earned one more turn through the rotation before the end of the season. Atlanta hasn't indicated whether its pitching plans will get shuffled to accommodate him, but with days off coming each of the last two Thursdays in September, the team has plenty of flexibility.

Added to roster for spot start Atlanta selected Suarez's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.
Impact Suarez will make a spot start Tuesday in the first game of a doubleheader against the Nationals. The left-hander has pitched well lately at Gwinnett, posting a 2.70 ERA and 23:6 K:BB over 20 innings covering his last four starts. Suarez could be sent back down after the spot start.
