Cleared for rehab assignment
Sanchez (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Sanchez suffered a left oblique strain back in mid-March during a spring training game but has been cleared to test things out in a game setting. The 27-year-old will require at least a handful of rehab contests in order to knock some rust off, but Sanchez should be ready to rejoin the Marlins' active roster in the not-too-distant future.

Lands on 10-day IL
The Marlins placed Sanchez on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a left oblique strain.
Impact
Sanchez suffered the injury in mid-March. He will be eligible for activation late next week, but it's not clear how far along Sanchez currently is in the recovery process. The Marlins have Kyle Stowers and Griffin Conine in their corner outfield spots for Thursday's opener.

Headed for injured list
Manager Clayton McCullough said Saturday that Sanchez (side) will begin the season on the injured list, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.
Impact
Sanchez was pulled from Thursday's Grapefruit League game due to an issue with his left side in what was initially labeled as a precautionary move. However, the outfielder's injury will ultimately cause him to miss the start of the regular season, and it's currently unclear if he'll be ready to return once eligible April 6. With Sanchez out, Griffin Conine will likely be the next man up to serve as the Marlins' Opening Day right fielder.

Precautionary exit with side issue
Sanchez's removal from Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros was a precautionary move due to an issue with his left side, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact
The Marlins sensed based on Sanchez's mannerisms following a fourth-inning double that he was uncomfortable and opted to pull him just to be safe. When asked by reporters after the game what he was dealing with, Sanchez pointed to his left side. Any side issue is a bit worrisome, but it does not seem at this point that there are any plans to take imaging of Sanchez's side. Consider him day-to-day.

Exits early Thursday
Sanchez was removed from Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros with a possible injury, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Sanchez went 2-for-3 with a single and double Thursday, but he was removed for a pinch runner after lining a double to left field in the fourth inning. It's unclear if his removal had anything to do with an injury, though the Marlins should offer more information after the game.

Clubs first spring homer
Sanchez went 1-for-2 with a walk, a home run and two RBI in Monday's split-squad game against the Nationals.
Impact
The outfielder turned on a Mitchell Parker pitch in the fourth inning for his first long ball of the spring. Sanchez dealt with a sore elbow earlier in camp and has struggled to find his timing at the plate, going 3-for-22 (.136) in nine Grapefruit League appearances with a 2:7 BB:K. He's healthy now however, and could even open the season as the starting center fielder given the Marlins' lack of appealing options at the position.

Receiving CF reps

Impact
The 27-year-old saw most of his action in center field during 2022 (and posted plus-two Defensive Runs Saved and minus-two Outs Above Average), but he has made just nine appearances there across the past two seasons. Regardless of whether he ends up in center or right field, Sanchez has a secure spot in the heart of Miami's lineup after he finished 2024 with 18 homers, 16 steals and a .730 OPS.

Manning right field Friday
Sanchez (elbow) is starting in right field and batting leadoff in Friday's spring game against Atlanta.
Impact
Sanchez has been limited to serving as a designated hitter thus far in camp due to an elbow issue, but he's been cleared to play the field and is set for his first spring appearance in the outfield Friday. There was some thought the outfielder would be limited to DH duties to begin the regular season, but that no longer appears to be a concern.

Notches hit in spring debut
Sanchez (elbow) went 1-for-2 with a strikeout in Sunday's 1-1 tie with the Mets in Grapefruit League action.
Impact
Sanchez made his spring debut Sunday after opening camp with right elbow inflammation. The outfielder is coming off of a 2024 campaign in which he batted .252 with a career-high 18 home runs, 64 RBI, 60 runs scored and 16 stolen bases over 489 at-bats in 149 games with Miami. Now healthy, Sanchez will look to build up a rhythm at the plate in the coming weeks as Opening Day approaches.

Could be limited to DH early
Sanchez, who is dealing with elbow inflammation, might be used as the Marlins' regular DH to begin the season, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact
The elbow issue isn't expected to force Sanchez to the IL for Opening Day, but Miami might limit how much time the 27-year-old sees in the outfield until he's 100 percent healthy. Sanchez saw a career-high 537 plate appearances in 2024, turning that workload into 18 homers, 16 steals, 64 RBI and 60 runs along with a .252/.313/.417 slash line, and he's being counted on to fill a key spot in the Marlins' batting order.
