Returning to rotation Perkins will rejoin the Athletics' rotation and start Friday's game against the Astros, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact With Aaron Civale (shoulder) and Luis Severino (shoulder) both set to spend several more weeks on the injured list, the A's will move Perkins out of the bullpen to fill the open spot in the rotation. The 26-year-old has been operating as a long reliever all season, posting a 5.46 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 28 innings. He has just four appearances this season of more than two innings, but he worked up to 4.2 frames against the Mariners last week.

Fans seven in 4.2 relief frames Perkins allowed two runs on three hits and no walks while striking out seven over 4.2 innings in Monday's 9-2 loss against the Mariners.
Impact Relieving starter Aaron Civale, Perkins entered in the fifth inning and provided excellent length in a lopsided contest, though he eventually ran out of steam after surrendering a two-run homer to Randy Arozarena in the ninth frame. Perkins had previously been used in multi-inning relief appearances this season but hadn't exceeded 2.1 innings before Monday, while his seven strikeouts also established a season high. Overall, the right-hander owns a 2-2 record with a 5.04 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 31:5 K:BB while converting three of five save opportunities, with his most recent save coming April 30.

Struggles in second blown save Perkins (2-2) blew the save and took the loss in Thursday's 5-4 loss against the Cardinals. He allowed two runs on three hits, no walks and a hit-by-pitch with no strikeouts over t...
Impact Perkins entered with a one-run cushion in the ninth inning but was unable to secure the victory. The right-hander plunked JJ Wetherholt with two outs, which opened the door for an Ivan Herrera game-tying single and a go-ahead double from Jordan Walker. Perkins emerged as a trusted high-leverage arm for manager Mark Kotsay after a strong start to the season, but he has faltered of late. The 26-year-old has surrendered five earned runs across his past four outings, including a pair of blown saves and losses. Overall, Perkins owns a 4.76 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 22:5 K:BB and three saves across 17 innings in 2026.

Settled for first hold Friday Perkins recorded his first hold of the season in Friday's 4-3 win over the Orioles, giving up one run on one hit and one walk over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out two.
Impact Entering the game in the ninth inning to protect a 4-2 lead, Perkins couldn't get the job done, tossing just 13 of 25 pitches for strikes and getting the hook with the tying run aboard. Hogan Harris picked up the final out to get the save. Perkins is the preferred closing option for A's manager Mark Kotsay, but the 26-year-old righty is still in his probationary period and has been scored upon in back-to-back appearances. On the season, Perkins sports a 4.11 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB through 15.1 innings while converting three of four save chances.

Saddled with first loss, blown save Perkins (2-1) was charged with the loss and a blown save Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing four runs (two earned) on two hits and one walk in 1.1 innings. He struck out two.
Impact Perkins, who was emerging as the Athletics' primary closer as of late, entered in the seventh inning Wednesday. The right-hander tossed a clean seventh frame before unraveling in the eighth, recording just one more out. A throwing error by Jeff McNeil prevented two of the runs from being earned, but Wednesday's effort could hurt Perkins' chances of seeing more save opportunities. Through 14.2 innings, he has a 3.68 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB while converting three of his four save chances.

Locks down fourth save Perkins earned the save Thursday against the Royals, allowing one hit while striking out one over a scoreless ninth inning.
Impact Perkins entered the ninth with a three-run lead and worked around a leadoff single by Jac Caglianone to secure the win. The Athletics leaned on their bullpen again after Jeffrey Springs exited early with hip soreness, and Perkins delivered as the final piece. It was his fourth save in his last five appearances, and he's now gone 9.1 consecutive innings without allowing a run. The right-hander owns a 2.70 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 17:3 K:BB on the season.

Tallies second six-out save Perkins notched the save Sunday against the Rangers, allowing one hit and no walks in two scoreless innings. He struck out three.
Impact The Athletics were forced into something of a bullpen game once starter J.T. Ginn (shoulder) left in the fourth inning, and they deployed primary closer John Kuhnel during the fourth frame. Perkins stepped in while the club hung onto a 2-1 lead in the eighth, recording his second two-inning save of 2026. The right-hander is emerging as a bit of a multi-inning weapon for the A's, boasting a 3.18 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 15:3 K:BB over 11.1 frames.

Picks up two-inning save Perkins earned a save against the Mariners on Tuesday, retiring all six batters he faced -- including two by strikeout -- over two innings.
Impact Perkins entered in the eighth inning with the Athletics up 4-2. He retired all three batters he faced in that frame, then returned for the ninth and struck out two of the three hitters who came to the plate against him to finish off the save. Joel Kuhnel has been the primary A's closer this season with four saves, and he may have been unavailable Tuesday after pitching two of the previous three days. With that said, the team's closer situation is far from set in stone, and Perkins -- who has a closer-like 12:3 K:BB over 8.1 innings on the campaign -- could work his way into more save chances, especially if Kuhnel struggles at any point.

Earns win in relief Perkins (1-0) earned the win Friday against the Mets after tossing 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. He allowed three hits while striking out three.
Impact This was Perkins's first appearance of the season at the big-league level after he was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday. Despite allowing three hits, Perkins did a good job of finding the plate, as he tossed 22 of his 30 pitches for strikes. He should remain part of the A's bullpen, but he won't have a lot of fantasy appeal as long as he stays out of a high-leverage role.

Summoned from minors The Athletics recalled Perkins from Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday.
Impact Perkins has been operating as a multi-inning reliever at Las Vegas, allowing four runs with a 9:7 K:BB over 7.2 innings. The Athletics need a fifth starter after sending down Luis Morales earlier this week, and Perkins has plenty of past experience in the rotation. However, the righty's usage this season suggests it's more likely he'll provide length in the bullpen.

Falls short of roster spot The Athletics optioned Perkins to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact Perkins came to camp in the mix for a spot either in the rotation or bullpen, but he didn't win either after allowing four runs with a 7:7 K:BB over nine Cactus League frames. The 26-year-old remains one of the club's more talented arms and should play a role with the big club in 2026. Perkins will likely open the season in the Sacramento rotation.
