The southpaw tossed 57 of 91 pitches for strikes, and he heads into the postseason with significant momentum -- since the All-Star break, Peterson's delivered a 2.73 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 67:28 K:BB in 66 innings while going 5-1.

Impact Peterson did well in limiting a talented Milwaukee lineup to just one run, but he certainly dealt with plenty of baserunners, which explains why he was pulled after 4.1 innings and 83 pitches. It was still a bounceback effort for the lefty, who was tagged for six runs in just 3.2 innings his last time out against these same Brewers. Peterson will now carry a 5.28 ERA into his next scheduled start Monday against Atlanta, which projects as a very tough matchup for the starter and one that might best be avoided for fantasy purposes.

Impact The southpaw never quite got going Wednesday, surrendering a pair of runs in the opening frame. It marked just the third time Peterson conceded more than two runs in a Cubs uniform as well. The Cubs plan to bring Edward Cabrera (blister) back as a reliever eventually, positioning Peterson for a rotation spot the rest of the way. Peterson will now carry a 6.45 ERA and 1.64 WHIP into the All-Star break, and he should slot into the back of Chicago's rotation once the second half kicks off, at least until the likes of Jameson Taillon (hamstring), Edward Cabrera (hamstring) and Ben Brown (neck) are able to return.

Folds against Cards Peterson (4-7) took the loss Friday as the Cubs got routed 17-1 by the Cubs, surrendering 10 runs on nine hits and three walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out three.

Impact After an effective debut for Chicago on June 27 in a win over Milwaukee, Peterson crashed back down to earth in a hurry. The 10 runs allowed were a career worst for the southpaw, who got chased after 91 pitches (58 strikes) as St. Louis put multiple runs on the board in five straight innings beginning in the second frame. The Cubs' injury woes in the rotation could force them to give Peterson another start, but with Jameson Taillon (hamstring) beginning a rehab assignment this weekend, he likely can't afford another poor outing if he wants to keep his spot.
