Colorado Rockies Player News: All Positions

News: Melville (2-3) took the loss against the Mets on Tuesday, giving up four earned runs on six hits over 5.2 innings, striking out two and walking one as the Rockies fell 6-1.
Impact: Melville's final line wasn't disastrous, but he was done in by the long ball, serving up three homers to Amed Rosario, Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso and ultimately getting hit with his third loss of the season. The 29-year-old has a 5.40 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 22:12 K:BB in his six big-league starts this season.
News: Freeland (groin) threw a simulated game Tuesday and is nearing a return from the 10-day injured list, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.
Impact: Freeland was placed on the injured list Aug. 22 due to a left groin strain, but he's expected to return before the season comes to an end. The Rockies are hopeful to get him two starts at 2-to-3 innings each during the final few weeks of the 2019 campaign.
News: Hampson is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets.
Impact: Hampson will head to the bench after a productive stretch of five consecutive starts, during which he compiled 11 hits in 22 at-bats while chipping in a stolen base, eight runs and three RBI. The offensive surge has helped Hampson lift his season average from .218 to .243 and should allow him to see steady playing time in the Rockies' final 11 games of the campaign.
News: Story went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and a walk Monday in the Rockies' 9-4 win over the Mets.
Impact: Story's 33rd home run of the season punctuated a five-run inning for the Rockies, who rolled to their fourth consecutive win. The shortstop will hit leadoff in Tuesday's contest and looks poised to hold down that spot in the lineup for the rest of the season with manager Bud Black having seemingly settled on Charlie Blackmon as the team's cleanup batter.
News: Desmond isn't in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets.
Impact: Desmond went deep for the 18th time this season Monday night, but he'll take a seat for the second game of the series. Raimel Tapia draws the start in left field and will hit sixth.
News: Senzatela (10-10) picked up the win against the Mets on Monday, giving up four earned runs on eight hits over six innings, striking out four and walking one in the Rockies' 9-4 victory.
Impact: The right-hander served up a pair of long balls to Brandon Nimmo and Amed Rosario but he wound up missing a quality start by just one earned run and picking up his 10th win of the season to even up his record. He's gone six innings and bagged the win in each of his last two starts, but it's still been a struggle on the whole in 2019 for Senzatela, who is sporting a 6.83 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and an unimpressive 66:52 K:BB across 114.2 innings.
News: Bettis (hip) is expected to be at full strength for the beginning of spring training, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
Impact: Bettis' season came to an end after he underwent surgery on both hips at the end of August, but the right-hander doesn't anticipate missing any time next season. "It's going to be a normal offseason for me," stated Bettis. "My weight lifting might get pushed back a little bit, and my throwing is looking like it's going to line up to start in December-ish. Everybody's intent is that I'll be back in spring training games ready to go, fully normal, and be ready for Opening Day." Bettis began the season in the starting rotation, but he quickly was moved to the bullpen. He finished the 2019 campaign with a 6.08 ERA and 1.55 WHIP with a 42:21 K:BB over 63.2 innings.
